Grading in Sheepscot around the turntable to allow for topsoil placement.
Also, the area next to the car barn where the stone was stored will be dressed up to allow for easier walking.

Also, Kubota retrieval will depend on the track crew. I do not want to disrupt them if they are on the main.

Based on the weather report for Friday and the forecast for Saturday I am postponing my plan for laying the first section of the Mill Track until next Saturday, 10/29.

Anyone looking for something to do for a few hours here or there, brush cutting needs to be done at Brook Crossing, Humason, Trask crossing, Rosewood to ToM. All of these areas need to be brush cut before the January winter events. I believe most if not all can be done with a string trimmer now with ease since it is fairly dry.

In preparation for this winters operation I cleaned out the west side of Janes Way which will need more attention still before the winter season sets in.

Grading crew has returned home..

Wednesday, Brendan used the dozer to push up the 12 or so loads of ditching we got from the State when they ditched 218.



The excavator came back this morning. The ramp at the north end was dismantled and piled to the side. First project when I unloaded it was this ditch and pipe project, trying to get the water away from the building.




Next, the rest of the area where the stone was stored was dressed up.



In the afternoon, the grading got done around the Turntable, with Joe and Stewart helping clean up after.

Work done on Saturday October 22:

* Return of the Kubota - Mike and Joe brought the Kubota excavator back from its long summer at the Top of the Mountain.  It was unloaded from the flatcar then immediately put to use ditching along the side of the car barn (see pictures above) and smoothing out the area between the building and the run-through track.
* Stacking timbers - A number of years ago we got large timbers from an old building.  They ended up stored along the track near the stub switch.  This morning Fred started moving them to stack them to let them dry out.  I guess Mike might have a use for them.
* Turntable - Brendan decked part of the table earlier this week and Zack finished it.
* Grading - Mike took the dozer and graded around the turntable and remove the high spots.
* Archives - A brand new scanner arrived and was set up.
* Sheepscot Station - Stewart put in the south window.

The other scanner was old and wore out, I guess.  I got it to scan - but it took repeated attempts to do so and pushing on the paper to get it to go through the feed.  The new one was easy (once I discovered the tabs that are engaged for transport and must be disengaged to be used).

I plan to start work at 7AM on the 29th.  We'll need a work train so we can load tools, joint bars, bolts, spikes, rail saw, rail drill, etc., to take with us.  The work train will go ahead of 51 and the load of rails and wait for us at the tie pile hear MP 7.  We will load ties on top of the load of rail (this is an experiment that Jason wants to try and if it is workable it will change the way we approach track laying in the future) and then proceed to TOM to lay the first 150 feet of the mill siding.

I am currently building a second metal work flat. I suspect when done it willbe heavier than the current one, so may be better suited for rail. Then with one full of ties and the othercfull of rail you could do 150' of track per trip.
