The WW&N will go to Amherst this winter
« on: August 16, 2009, 10:40:38 AM »
My 7/8ths N2 WW&N Ry will be at the Amherst show this winter.  The shows organizer called yesterday and told me to consider myself invited.  Hopefully the WW&N will be placed near the WW&F booth, he was going to try to accomodate us but it might mean relocating the WW&F and SRRL booths into the new pavilion.

The large (13.7:1) scale models run on G guage track but since they represent 2 ft models they are 50% ± larger than other G guage trains (20.1, 22 or 24:1).  To provide a sense of the magnitude of this scale a 28ft scale boxcar is 24.5" long in reality.  I'll figure out how to post a few pictures.

The modular layout going to the show is 32" wide by 38 ft long and represents a small yard consiting of the mainline a runaround track and two sidings.

I'd also welcome other 7/8th modelers (Marcel + ??) to add to my display.

Dave,

I know that this is not a modeling forum, but I would like to mention that one of the many irons I have in the fire is dabbling with building some 7/8n2 cars.  I don't intend to get too deep into it, but if you would like to exchange a few emails about it, you could PM me.  I would like to see photos of your modular layout and some of your equipment.

How do you get trucks for the cars? What does WW&N stand for?
Just think if you were a live steamer and made a scale two-footer to run on 7.25 (up there) or 7.5 (down here) gauge track. That would be almost one third scale.

Jock,

There is a whole group of us that model in 7/8" scale.  I have purchased truck kits from 7/8n2 Railway Equipment Co. (Steve King) 54 Claybrook Road; Rocky Mount, VA 24151; Tel (540) 489-5007.  There have been plans from Ted Stinson in Garden Railways magazine, too.

Search Yahoo Talk Groups for the 7/8n2 group.

Also, look at these web sites:  www.cocry.com and http://www.ferdmels.com/rollingart/78thsscale.html

Take a look at this PDF list:  http://www.bts.au.com/7eighths/pdfs/manufacturers.pdf

There are a number of web basedd resources for 7/8 n2 trucks, castings, etc.  Steve King mention in an earlier post is probablly the best starting point.  The beauty (to me) of the scale is there is very little off the shelf and you must build it like the prototype.

I have a number of pictures on Kodax's easy share & will send an invite to anyone who sends me a private correspondence.
