Fall Work Weekend 2025
« on: July 15, 2025, 04:51:02 PM »
Hi All,

This years Annual Fall Work Weekend is October 10-13, with that said I have the track work plan that Jason and I discussed today. The track crew will be relaying the south curve into Hummison Brook Trestle.

This section of track will be getting the Davis Grade treatment as Bryce likes to call it where the week before we will start tearing up the rails and regrading up until the Friday of the work weekend. Friday we will lay out our ties and rail and spike. That Saturday we hope to be lining and ballasting and then Sunday will be to add the supper elevation, tamp and dress before Pumpkin Trains on Monday the 13th.

This work will in turn delay the hopes of building our West Yard but that will be our tentative plan for 2026's Spring Work Weekend.

Hope to see you then.
Dan

For what speed are calculating the super elevation? Shinkansen and Eurostar use 300 Kph, but slow down to 200 Kph in tunnels. I presume you are contemplating a similar speed downgrade for the Humason Trestle.

I hope to see one of the SAR ballast cars at work that weekend. And maybe somebody will video them working on the track. If they are not needed on the track work; maybe somebody can put some paint on them. Maybe they can be lettered SAR on one side and WW&F MofW on the other side.

Well I had thought about that, but I think we'd want our crews to stay hydrated!

Sorry guys, but no Moxie this fall.  I'm suffering from a severe back injury and can't travel more than an hour or so, so a 8.5 hour trip is out of the question.  Hope all goes well and I'll most likely will see you in the spring.

What shall we do without our Moxie to push us through the weekend lol. We will persevere without the sweet nectar, take it easy getting back to normal John. You can thank Bryce for the initial thought for the advertisement but he is right for we aim to try and get back to a work weekends of old. New Track is hopefully the call, as we've said before the curve at Hummison will be ripped up and regraded the week prior so that Friday we start laying out ties and building track.

Sorry to leave you guys high and dry - I know that many relish in the thought of original Moxie gracing their taste buds.  However, the track gang must go on and when this Humanson section is complete, what's next?  When can we get started on getting across "Cross" road (pun intended)?  Let's get rolling on the "Alna extension".

John,

I get a kick out of your Moxie posts. Reminds me of how as an Edaville Railroad worker, we were tempted (and encouraged) to enjoy various cranberry products. Cranberry juice was of course the go to beverage on a hot day. Cranberry ice cream was searched out on Sunday afternoons, usually just before the last trip of the day. And in the late 60's and in the 1970's, there was delicious home baked cranberry bread.

So thanks for the laugh, hope your back is better soon and maybe you'll be thinking of some Moxie ice cream or Moxie banana bread...? 🤣

To the what is next question, the answer can be found above as I intend to start laying out the west yard with help from others come springtime.
