Another thought I have had about building the line between 218 and the Headtide Rd is that after you reach TOM. How will you keep your track gang in shape after the Sheepscott yard is finished and if the problems between TOM and 218 still have not been resolved? I know this could be 5 to 10 years down the road still something to think about.

If we are able to raise the money to get the large washout/avalanche stabilized, there should be plenty of main line track work to do.

First we need to grade the Clark and Fossell property in 2009 or 2010.  This gives us two years of additional main track laying.(2010-2011)

Then we need to stabilize the washout and grade to the next washout(2011-2012) and this gets one more year main track laying. (2012)

Then we need to replace two washouts with culverts and grade to the brook (2012) this gets us to the Carleton Brook Bridge (Trout) one more years tracklaying (2013)

Then Carleton Brook bridge must be built (2012-2013), and we can lay track to Rte 218.

Based on our past experience, this is a very doable, leisurely schedule.

But it is going to take a lot of money and volunteer effort.

Just a brief update, we finished cutting in the field at Head Tide Saturday. I left my camera at home so no pictures. We have about another day maybe 2 of cutting in that area and that should get us through the cut. Just a bunch of small trees in there so that should go relatively quickly.

Mike,   When the tree removal is completed from Headtide Road throught the cut by the church will the right of way be cleared to highway?   Or is there addition work needed in the area.     Thanks   Fred L. Kuhns

Fred, this is Dwight I can answer part of your question to Mike, The Row in the field is cleared north from the cut to the road of all tree's and brush. The cut may need more clearing from the ditch up the side's of the cut. Am not sure about the cut because I was not there last weekend.

From the cut South to the crossing of rt 218 needs alot of work. Only the very small trees and brush were cut in this section along the top of the grade. This was to open a walking trail. There are many very large trees in the roadbed and along the side's of the row that still need to be cut. There is three wash outs. Two have small foot bridges over them. This section was cut over many years ago. So the brush has started to reclaim the row.

Fred, the ROW will be walkable, with some of the larger trees left in place. When that was cleared a few years ago, it was done just for walking. So the larger trees will need to be removed eventually, before the track can be restored in that area.

while we are talking about the north end, here's some more info. The right of way south from Rt 218 to Carlton (Trout) Brook was cleared of tree's and brush along the top of the grade a few years ago. It is ok for a hike. But a logging operation made the grade unpassable for vehiles. Lots of ruts and mud holes.

There will be some of us there Saturday. Location will be determined Saturday, most likely in the station area, up behind septic heights. The snow may have done in the Head tide area for now.

Wow!  Big difference with the ROW cleared of trees.  Thanks, Mike.
