Anticipated work for weekend of September 17:

* Friday evening board meeting
* Turntable
* Boxcar 67
* Top of Mountain work

I expect with the extended effort everyone put in last week, and the Fall Festival next weekend, that we won't have a whole lot of volunteers around.

Work done on Saturday Sept 17:

* After a crazy couple of weeks I was finally able to get some paperwork in the office completed (mainly filing away paid bills and organizing store reports).  Boring stuff, but necessary to sanity.
* Boxcar 67: Zack was making larger square holes out of small round ones for the roof timbers.
* Top of Mountain: Mike graded for the future track, put in a culvert, and created space for a switch stand.  Fred and Zack came up at the 1:30 trip and we walked out in the woods where Fred had cut some of the trees, out to where the future track path meets the road to Porcupine Palace.
* Percival House: Zack unhooked and several people removed the clothes washer from the kitchen closet.  The washer doesn't work and will be thrown out.  Meanwhile the dryer does work and will be put on Craigslist.  That kitchen closet will become a true storage closet for kitchen supplies currently stored in the northwest room.  Cleaning out the northwest room of unused stuff also commenced, the freezers there will be moved downstairs and the room made ready as an Archives Annex.

Any consideration to hooking up a washer/dryer in the basement? I would have appreciated that during a recent stay at the Sheepscot Inn.

I agree with Ed on the w/d as it saved by bacon after my trip to the  mud pit last fall.

Discoveries for today. First one I knew about ahead of time...

Broken piece of rail

A second cut lever mounting bracket, or maybe a brake rigging holder for body mounted brakes. I found the first one on the opposite side of the tracks a few years ago, when grading for the main and siding.

Additional work at Sheepscot today -

* Turntable track - The track crew loaded a flatcar with stone and unloaded it on the turntable track.  The stone was spread to fill the tie bunks for over 30' of the recently moved track which makes it stay in place better and gives a safer place for brakemen to walk.  A bit more stone is needed near the frog and on the machine shop lead which was raised and tamped last week.

* Turntable bridge - Zack worked on the end timbers that the ring rail wheels attach to.

* Locomotive #9 - Roger worked on the fireman's side injector check valve.  Marcel has been working on the original roof hatch cover.

Actually...there hadn't been.  Nobody thought that either had been used in a very long time.  Certainly the washer wasn't working properly (leaking badly) so that's why we were getting rid of it.

Mike,
Before I saw the caption I thought you were headed out to test the new RowMow cannon...

Actually, I believe there is another washer in the basement- It's just from a very different from the ones we are accustomed to!

Joe, did you get in touch with Steve Lennox from West Bath? I gave you his number the last time I saw you. He said he'd be willing to come down during the week. Also try Josh (by phone) although I don't know if he'll be available.

I am going to get in touch with Steve on Monday. I would have called him today but am away on work right now. I have a friend coming down with me on Tuesday, and we may try for something on Sunday as well if things go well Tuesday, and with my unknown schedule with work.
