August 2016 Work Planning

Work done on Saturday August 27:

* Turntable foundation: the forms all came off, helped out considerably by contractor Jeff Verney who dug around with his excavator, then filled in gravel between the center pivot and the outer ring wall.  Jeff also dug a new ditch for the drain pipe under the driveway.  Zack started fitting up pipes for drainage.
* Ice Cream Social: The 12:30 and 2:30 trains were pretty full, the 1:30 not so much.
* Archives: I tried in vain to get the new printer to talk via wifi to the computer.  No go.  Ed Lecuyer was there, so I asked Ed if he could do it, he had the same results.  We both agreed with a USB cable connecting them.  I also spent time looking for pictures for the clinic I'm giving at the Convention.

New pipe under the driveway?

If it's as discussed yesterday, we're just restoring the ditch that was filled in for the cement trucks.  Said ditch leads away from pipe under driveway; I suspect that's what James was referring to.

Some may recall the rather puny ditch that was dug to drain the SE side of the Percival House and the driveway.  That ditch got filled in, and Jeff dug a much bigger ditch (not using a shovel either).  It is no longer puny.

It's also more direct, following the contour of the ring wall which avoids digging near the buried wires that are in the old ditch.

Work done Sunday, Aug. 28th -

Fairly quiet day with about 40 adults and 20 children riding the train.

* Membership - We sold 3 new memberships including a life member.

* Turntable - Jeff did some earthwork early this morning.

* Gift shop - A new display was set up above the back cabinets.

* TOM - Mike and Fred worked at the field site.

* Archives - Dale worked on historic material.

* Shop - Some clean up was started to get ready for the National Narrow Gauge Convention because the first convention guests will arrive next Saturday.
