Most bolt patterns are 6-6-6, even on 85 lb rail. Common measurements for 75 lb webber bars are usually 6"-5 1/2"-6" or vice versa.

This "new" rail will be enough to last the museum for a few years. As long as grading can keep up, and ties and other material supplied, Dana's well led group of track layers can resume building around 1200' per work weekend.

Although many of our obstacles are closer than 1200', hopefully some can be over come ahead of the track crew.

No matter how much is laid per year, as long as we keep going is all that matters.

I heard of another 3,000 track feet of 60-pound rail available in Minnesota. It's still in track but out of service. Road trip, anyone?

Folks,
Thanks to all of you who made this purchase happen. It is always a good thing when the loss of a tourist railraod results in benefit to a museum!

56 and 60 pound rails are way to small for anything but museums; especially
narrow gauge ones! On to route #318!

You serious, Wayne? If so, I'd be willing to tag along. NW Ohio is on the way to MN.

Let's let this settle a bit, Jeff. I always have my eyes and ears open for such items.

See you soon.

I'd check the bolt pattern first.  If its one of the sizes we already have (great), if not I'd think twice before mixing another in.

These days, you take what you can get, especially if the price is right!

John, we do have a very nice rail drill thanks to one of our members. Cropping and drilling rail is no longer a problem.

Dwight W. found and donated the rail drill.  What a boon to making joint bars fit.  The Dana crew now goes a lot faster.  Perhaps the next step is an attachment for a jack hammer to drive the spikes.  That would help those of us who are getting a little long in the tooth for swinging a spike maul.

Bill Baskerville you may be getting long in the tooth but I find I am
getting shorter - wearing down and some gone AWOL.

If there is an expedition to MN there is bed space and a place at the table for the
intrepid. Also some stuff useful to the museum that could go back.

If the sortie is by air or rail I would be glad to do ground transport.
