Monday Jan. 18 2016

     Plow track clear switches and flange ways, cut trees and burn brush. Supposed to be a very light snow tomorrow for a couple of hours.

Bummed the weather was bad Saturday.  Good news on those bolts!  I'm aiming to make it up on the 23rd and tackle the rest of that draft gear if no one has gotten to it.

Work done Monday 1/18/16:

* Cut 'n burn: We made our way to ToM and spent a few hours in the morning clearing a small patch of trees.  After damping down the fire with snow we headed back to Sheepscot.
* Vacuum brake system: Jason and Jonathon were working on a train vacuum brake concept system.
* #10: John R, Randy and I worked on #10 some, removing some pieces to prepare for boiler inspection.
* Kubota: Mike was smoothing out the new Kubota cylinder liners.

You have to enjoy cutting little trees by the hundreds and burning them to do this work, or you really like keeping the museum moving forward into future endeavors. We had one fire yesterday an cleared an area about 15 feet deep by 30 to 40 feet wide. It was plenty warm around the fire. It was a little chilly on the open car returning to Sheepscot station.

Tomorrow we'll switch the shop around, then likely head to ToM to prepare the crane for putting the plow on the south end of the diesel.  That'll clear the line for Saturday also.

Jonathan has been continuing work on the vacuum brake system components.  Work has progressed on 10 as well.

Anticipated work for Saturday Jan 23:

* ToM Tree Clearing - more trimming of the verge
* B&SR 67
* Kubota?
* #10 inspection prep
* Prep for the Springfield Show on the 30th/31st.

As of this morning's forecast, the Nor'easter for this weekend appears that it will give us a glancing blow on Sunday.  So Saturday is safe for traveling.

Wednesday we did some switching to move 10 over to bay 1 for boiler removal and moved the caboose from the car barn to shop for work train duty. 118 was put in 320's place in the car barn. We also went to T.O.M to set up the crane for swapping the plow on 52 from front to back on the locomotive.

Top of the Mountain looks kind of desolate with the snow cover.....

For the cutting crew:

Everything for Saturday, chain saws, oil, fuel and kindling has been loaded onto 320.   A kerosene heater is on board to keep the car warm.

Work done on Saturday Jan 23:

* Top of Mountain tree cutting: One big crew tackled cutting north from the clearing from last week, and a small crew worked on the south property line, clearing a path to the farm road.  Mike plans to use that to push the stumps way out of the way.  The big crew made a large dent in the mass of trees.
* Archives: Linda worked in Archives.
* #10: Work to get things off the boiler so it can be disconnected from the chassis.

I don't know what else was happening.
