Porthmadog Harbour Station Reconstruction
« on: March 15, 2014, 12:13:44 PM »
A photo archive of the work done over the winter is at: https://www.facebook.com/festrail

Both the FR and WHR reopen on 22 March, so the work has to be substantially complete by then.

There's also sequence on this weekend's 'Terabash' volunteer blitz on the Harbour Station buildings to get them ready for the new season.

Especially check out this album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153454686335716.1073741846.240578110715&type=3

Some serious changes to the layout of the station area.  Guess I'll have to go back to Wales to inspect it!

Maybe some day a WW&F engine and crew (of many) will visit Wales.

As soon as the WW&F Hauling and Rigging Department finishes our yet-to-be-purchased C130, we'll be ready ;)

With a C-17, we could also take along #9.

I can only guess at the logistics and cost of shipping a locomotive overseas and back.

Actually I'm not certain our locomotives would work well on the FR.  You are 600 mm, ours are 610.  Wouldn't there be some interference all over the place?

I know where there's a C-18 ... but we'd have to paint over the words RIO GRANDE on the tender.

You find me an airworthy C-130 and I'll fly you there myself !!!!

Retired USAF

P.S. - As far as 600mm, just need to move the tires a wee bit.   The Erie had extra wide tires for their fleet of Russian Decapods.

The C-18 at Colorado Railroad Museum is not rail worthy let alone flight worthy.

A USAF C-17 is still the better choice.

Ira,

Don't think the C-18 can handle tires wide enough to go from 3' to 2'.  But I'd love to see her here in PA at the EBT! ;D

The formal opening of the reconstructed Harbour Station at Porthmadog took place today with the usual jollifications and the F&WHR Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/festrail) is worth another visit.
