Sounds like perfect weather for the work weekend.  Hopefully the forecast holds.

We want...A SHRUBBERY!  One that looks nice, and not too expensive.

I should have posted the following here, instead of under the Big Joe thread:

Friday, I'm running the tamping crew.  I'm going to plan for a 9 AM departure from Sheepscot, although this may change based on other railroad needs.  We'll be working on "Davis Grade", which is just north of Brook Crossing.

Saturday, I'd like to leave Sheepscot before 8, so that we can clear the mainline for an 11 AM passenger trip.

Bill Reidy then responded to my post:
Quote
Hi James,

Regarding Davis grade, a couple of questions:

-- Do any ties need replacement on that stretch?  I seem to recall you've already done tie replacement on that section.
-- Assuming we have the turnout and some folks are willing, is there any ditching work that should be done through there?

Tie replacement: I'm not aware of any needing it, although as we get going we may find some needing replacement.
Ditching: Ditching in the cut would be a great thing, if we get the people willing to do it.  Both sides need it.

If we have crew enough Saturday, I have gotten permission from the land owner to create some waterbars at Brook Crossing. I can lead a small crew doing this, should only take a couple of hours.

Then we can move onto other ditching in the area to help drainage. The ditches really need cleening through the cut on Davis Grade.

Hi Dave,

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday.

A note for everyone coming to the Work Weekend:  We've already sold 2 of the 3 anniversary lanterns that were unpacked last week.  I will unpack more this week so if anyone would like one set aside to purchase this weekend, please back channel me or email the gift shop manager.

For those who missed the original post, the lanterns are for the museum's 25th anniversary.  They are real kero-burning brakeman's hand lanterns made in the USA.  They are marked the way Carson Peck had the railroad's lanterns marked in 1907,  WW&FRy CO

The price is $198.90 plus tax.  Proceeds go towards on-going restoration projects such as locomotive #9.

Here are a few of the photos I took this morning. I teamed up with the amphibious crew on the way to get the frogs and got Brook Crossing ready for more rain. I had planned to install these at this height to keep the road passable by a vehicle. There is about 2 inches of the tie that sticks up.

Then I walked up to James' crew and found everyone scattered around changing ties amd tamping.

Thanks for the pictures Brendan, they show some projects I didn't get to see.  Don't worry about the tire, there's still 3 good sides.

Stephen,

Great photos - I love the one of Fred with Stewart working in the background. That photo really captures the spirit of camaraderie and dedication that is the hallmark of the WW&F. I appreciate how you "sneak up" on people hoping to get the candid shot that really shows the pride and determination that we put in.

James,  There is no cure for the common birthday.   8)

BTW - Great photos all, especially Big Joe's reflection. The photo of Fred proves that he's not the museum's version of Grumpy Cat!

Stephen, all your photos are great, but the reflection photo is awesome.

Young or old, everyone in attendance worked well together and got a lot done. I think comaraderie overcomes age every time.

Love the pic of Fred tipping his hat, Stewart painting away in the background.  Never worked with a band of finer duffers anywhere!

See ya
