Here's a picture found in an album by one of my co-workers.

He's pretty sure the photo was taken near a grandstand in South China. The water is China Lake, the train is a southbound train on the Winslow branch. The picture was taken by his wife's grandmother in her childhood. He doesn't know the year. He initially said in the Twenties, but I said that wasn't possible because the branch was torn up in the Teens.
At first glance, it looks like it's Baggage car 1 followed by a coach. But in looking at it closely this afternoon, some of the folks at the Museum thought it might be two boxcars and two coaches. Maybe for campers.
The thing that I find really interesting are the telegraph/phone poles. I didn't realize the Winslow Branch had those.
He's guessing that the time of year is August or so, because the level of the lake is down quite a ways. Nowadays it's controlled by the Water District.
