Work done on Saturday April 14:

* Car 65: The ladders have been installed, and the door hardware on one side has as well.
* Clean up: Fred took a flatcar north and loaded it up with stuff from the junk pile near the trestle, and brought it back.  The AA truck was loaded and sent to the transfer station.  More is left on the flatcar, but Stewart wants to look at the spark plugs in the truck.
* Brigid started her gardening.
* Cindy did lunch
* John R returned all the inventory from shows, and Linda spent most of the day organizing the store.
* #9: Marcel was working on the cab.  He found evidence that the cab roof was originally covered in tin.
* Roger, Mike the fire chief, and I discussed next week's drill.

The clean up crew,Leon ,Eric ,Mike ,Isaiah and I cut up all the bad ties left on the flatcar, than we went North to the large pile just beyond the trestle and cut up enought pieces to fill the car. We returned very slowly so none would drop off and put it at the end of track. The flatcar probably has about 3 A.A. Ford truckloads on it. We took one load to the transfer station in the afternoon. There are probably 1 and 1/2 flatcar loads left in that pile.

Anticipated work for Saturday April 21:

* Car 65: Probably painting and lettering.  I'm sure Stewart Letterman has been busy all week.
* #9: See Jason.
* Rules Review and Emergency Drill: We'll have an abreviated rules review at 12 PM (right after lunch), then the emergency drill starts at 1.  We need some victims, some traincrew, and some innocent bystanders.

Bring your raingear, since we get some much-needed rain starting Saturday.

Work done on April 21:

* Today's big task was a rules review at noon, then we started the drill prep at 1, although the train didn't actually leave the station until about 1:40.  The drill itself started at 1:50, and ran about a half hour.  It went fairly smoothly.  The train "derailed" at Brook Crossing, and there were several "injuries", including a "broken" arm, chest "pains", and sundry other "injuries".  Afterward we had a debriefing.
* During the week, Stewart worked on #65, including painting.
* Mike started up the mower, and Dave mowed about 15 feet.  Worked well.
* I took a track crew out mid-morning and we worked north of Brook Crossing.  We only got 2 1/2 joints done.

We took the model "A" truck to the transfer station with old wood in it. Two loads. I don't know if we'll get more trash wood from above Humison Brook or not on the upcoming weekend. Probably Not as the truck has a bad tire.

Anticipated work for weekend of April 27 - 29 - the 11th? 12th? annual Spring Work Weekend!

* Dana will lead a crew utilizing Big Joe Tampiere for main line track maintenance on Friday and Saturday.  I don't know where he has planned, although I suspect at least one day will be north of the Ladder.  Tie replacement may also be a part of the scenario, as will ballast dressing.  On Sunday morning he'll lead a crew building track at the Creamery Pier in Wiscasset, on which we'll place Car 65 in the next several weeks.
* Zack is lead on digging out for cement footings for the Restroom project.  We hope to have concrete poured this summer so that we can put up the basic building this fall, so this is a very important project.
* Sue leads the kitchen crew, as always.  Looking forward to great food!
* Brigid would like help with landscaping.
* Steve Z will lead a shingle crew for the station.
* Jason is working on #9
* Zack and Stewart are leading the work on #65 - we need trucks for it!
* Fred leads the scraping/painting crew on the back of the freight shed.

Saturday right after lunch will be a rules review.  Meet out by the pump cars.

Talked with Zack tonight-- he's counting on working with Dave Crow on the trucks as his main project.  He mentioned Steve Z. for the bathroom project.  I'm sure that'll work out.

We should re-iterate here that Dana's track crew is the priority- which is why James has it listed first.  Everyone please make sure Dana's crew needs for track work are covered when considering how to spend the weekend.

Thanks,
jason

Work Weekend report for Friday and Saturday:

* Track crew: Dana started out on Cockeye Curve, jacking, tamping, lining, and stoning.  Friday morning was drizzly/rainy, afternoon was better.  We got through most of the curve on Friday and finished it up Saturday morning.  The crew moved on to Albee's Field, and jacked/tamped/lined/stoned from the bottom of the ladder to the rail piles.  Unfortunately Big Joe kept dying - first from wiring issues, then the motor burned out Saturday afternoon.
* Sheepscot station: Steve Z and crew removed and reshingled the whole thing on Friday.
* TCDA car: Stewart and crew worked on lettering the east side of the car.  Zack, Dave C, and many others worked on the trucks.  This afternoon I saw partially assembled trucks with wheels ready to go in them.
* #9: Marcel was busy with the cab.  I couldn't tell if other work had been done on it.
* Restrooms: Digging started for the forms on Friday, and was complete on Saturday afternoon.  There appeared to be time for Zack to determine where the plumbing should go, and that was dug out too.
* Kitchen: Linda fed us at Friday noon and Sue took over for the Friday night and Saturday.
* Steam: Loco 10 was steamed up for the day, ran the regular trains then ran the traditional Saturday evening run of Work Weekend.

If there were other projects, I didn't see them or their results.

The motor in question on the tamper is the lift motor. This is nothing more than a starter motor. Repairs are easily made. Just need some time.

On my way through Wiscasset this morning I glanced over near the Creamery pier and saw 30 feet of 2 foot gauge track.  I'd say that the track construction in Wiscasset was successful.

Stephen,

Thanks for the photos of the Wiscasset track crew.  What a great job.  It's probably the first time the WW&F has built new n.g. track in Wiscasset in about 90 years.

Other Sunday projects included  -

Josh R. ran new wiring to the Prentice lathe in bay 2.  Wayne and Bernie brought #9's tender into bay 2 and used the overhead cranes to roll it on it's back for inspection.  Earlier, Wayne came up with a way to seal off the discharge ports so the tender could be partially filled with water for tests.  There were very few leaks.  When the track crew returned from Wiscasset they removed the rotted planks at Brook crossing (formerly Davis).  New planks will be installed soon.  Work continued on car 65's trucks with Dave Crow and others working on the journal boxes, brake parts and bearings.  The lettering on the east side of Car 65 was completed and the car rolled outside for the first time with the TCDA lettering.  The car is in primer.

Monday - Brendan worked on milling the brass bearings for #65 and Jason worked on #9's frame and firebox mounts.
