New Homepage
« on: November 12, 2011, 08:22:11 PM »
Thanks to the talents of Stephen Hussar, we now have a slide show that appears on the homepage of the WW&F Museum.

Thanks Stephen for doing the leg work to make this happen (not to mention taking the stunning photos.)

Please let me know if the slideshow doesn't work well on your PC. The WW&F web team are considering many changes to the main web site over the next few months.

The slide show has wonderful views of the many things the railroad and the volunteers do.  Beautiful photos, thanks Ed and Stephen.

Yeah, that's the Ticket!!

Suggestion:  a few more pictures of the original, maybe juxtaposed with a similar scene in the now?

Good Great work, team!

Thanks all, and thanks to Ed for plugging this into the web site! The new slideshow actually resides within my Smugmug account. I built a dedicated gallery of museum imagery, and handed the HTML code to Ed. The nice thing about this set up is that the slideshow can be changed as often as we want, with pictures that reflect a certain time of year, a work weekend, annual picnic...anything!

Gordon, right now it's set up to play the images randomly. However, it's an easy change on my end to grab the code that would make them play in a certain order. But doing that means Ed would have to "open the hood" again, and insert that slightly different string of code.

Dave, the slideshow uses Adobe Flash. Sounds like you may need to download a 'plug-in' to see it. What browser are you using?

Steve,
When I checked back I found it seems to be working though it stalls on the cute kid and Rocket Bob at Alna Center. Is it supposed to be an endless loop or stop there? It looks great, thanks to you and Ed for doing it.

It is an endless loop. If by chance it stalls when you first start playing it, refreshing or reloading the page should get it going again. I think it depends on which version of Flash you have...glad you can see it!

SUPER! Now when someone comes to our web site, they see about us and our activities without digging in the forum.

Stephen (and Ed),

I can only echo what others have said -- what a great addition to the home page!

The photos give a great impression of what the museum is about -- especially the image of the young child with the sleigh horses.

We want...A SHRUBBERY!  One that looks nice, and not too expensive.

Sorry. I'm with Dave on this one. Tried it with four different browsers under OSX 10.3.9 and got nothing. Other sites using .swf files behave, but not this. Must be some bleeding-edge up-to-the-second version of Flash that has turned it's back on "older" systems.
