Tie Fighting
« on: March 10, 2011, 08:39:48 AM »
Last week two loads of eight foot ties were delivered to Sheepscot.  They are sitting on top of the snow piles at the north end of the parking lot.  Sometime this month (or next month) they should be sorted, cut and stacked.  They are in a good location to be used on the spur when we build to where the turntable and roundhouse will be built.
I have some concern that when the snow melts, the ties may shift and crush the picnic tables. :'(

John,  That's why I hope we can deal with them soon.  They were delivered when no one was around to show the state man where to put them.  The original plan was that we go to Wiscasset by the end of March to pick what we wanted.  The state crew decided to do us a favor by delivering them last week, which is much appreciated.  As a result we probably have a few more than we would have pulled out of the pile.

Aren't we going to want some of them to be left at thier current length for switch timbers? ???

The pile on the  left is on the picnic tables (when the snow melts). Looking at the pile this weekend, we got quite a few solid looking ones in the delivery.

The picnic tables should be pretty safe - the pile is 10-15 feet away (horizontally) from the tables.

Vincent,  We use 10 footers for switch timbers.

I sure hope you are right. I put a lot of work into building those tables. When I was there for the MVRS event, it looked to me as if the picnic table nearest the engine house would be in danger when the snow melted. I guess my observation was close to what Mike Fox said in his posting in which he used the dreaded phrase "on the picnic tables."

Yes, one picnic table is chained to the pine tree. The other is closer to the house.

I'll take a look at the situation and move tables if I can do so, or try to avert an avalanche.  Does that mean I have to do more shoveling?  :P

OK, does any one have a leaf blower that plans to attend this weekend?
