CNJ 113 steams! *pics*

All, these remarkable photos were taken in Minersville, PA by Joe Fusco. That's our own Bernie Perch in the 2nd image, standing back from the locomotive, enjoying a blast from a whistle he made. The whistle mounted on the 113 is the same one Bernie brought to Sheepscot last spring. Thanks to Joe Fusco for sharing his fabulous pictures!

Again, many thanks for posting these photos.  There is nothing like a steam locomotive steaming away for a night photo.  Joe is just a fabulous photographer and very easy to work with.  I asked Stephen to post these because I probably bored many people to death talking about CNJ 113 and the whistle during the spring work weekend.  It is the greatest thing to see a locomotive come alive after 50 years of inactivity and after over 12 years of effort.  My part was mostly pattern making, like I am doing for #11, and grant writing.  I also contributed to getting her fired up.  We are burning large sized anthracite and it is tricky to get started burning. 

We are hoping to see her running next summer.

Hey Stephen, Bernie -

Glad you like the images! It's always great coming up to Minersville, and especially nice to finally see the thing under steam. I'm glad you find me easy to work with Bernie, because I felt kind of demanding asking you to stand in front of the light - "No, move forward, no - move backward. STOP! Hold your hand on your hat! Ok ready!"  One of these days I'll come and visit the WW&F.

And congratulations to Bernie and the rest of the team for their progress under sometimes difficult conditions.  Native northeastern steam locomotives are rare enough so having a live one is a real treasure.

Thanks for running most of them in black and white, the way a steam locomotive should be seen. What do you lag a steamer with in this post asbestos age. With all the technology and materials advancement since asbestos replaced wood, is anything better for insulating now?
