Just a reminder that this project is still in the works and fund raising continues.  Construction was put on hold for a couple of reasons - one of the biggest is location.  Now that about half of the roundhouse spur is in service the section house site will be chosen soon.  It is possible that construction could start this Fall if we receive more funds.   A small donation ($5 - $10) from half of our members would bring the project to full funding.  It will be a major plus to have a replica of this historic building.  The handcars and other small rolling stock will benefit.

Glad you brought this back up Stewart. We need to look things over for a good location for this. Keeping in mind sight distances so we don't have another gas house. I would like to see it on the House track next to where 320/103 are at now. West side. Set back like it was originally.

Thanks Mike,

Your location idea sounds good, it's one of the best places for it. The section house will be set back at least 15' with a jigger track running to the spur.  There will be planking between the rails of the spur where the jigger track starts.  This will allow for easier turning of handcars, etc.  ROWMOW 1 may fit in the section house.

So how much is in the fund at this time? Also, could something be posted in a future newsletter to make members aware of this? Not all members are subscribed to the discussion group, and I'm guessing many, like me, don't check the forum very regularly. I just happened to see this topic while looking for info about the dairy car construction.

There's a little over $1500 in the fund.

Jeff,

The Whitefield Section House project may be a line item on the Fall Fund Drive letter.  This has been discussed by museum officers.  If that happens the museum may receive the funds to start construction.  One of the big ticket items will be the cedar shingles that cover the 4 walls of the structure.  The building itself wouldn't be real expensive but the shingles kick the price up.   If the funds come in (and/or some lumber or shingles get donated) construction could start this Fall.

Looking forward to seeing you next month.

When Ed and I costed this out for an unsuccessful grant application, I believe the materials were in the $3600 range.
Is this correct.

I hope we soon get money enought to build it as we now have the Row- Mow to put in it if there's enought room.
