The Taconnet lives!!!!!!!!
« on: September 21, 2009, 12:08:37 PM »
In 7/8th scale that is. I was at a large scale live steam meet over the weekend at a friends house in New Jersey and was surprised when I saw someone wearing a WW&F T-shirt. I was even more surprised when he opened the rather large box he had with him. The car is scratch built and took over a year and a half to build. All of the windows and doors operate and the mail room is complete right down to the mail clerk's coffee cup! It runs on G gauge track and it is massive! Hope you like the pics.

This last photo is the car sitting next to a 1:20.3 scale three foot gauge passenger car. Both cars run on the same track. Gives you an idea of the size.

O and not to be forgotte was the WW&F flat car he built as well.

Really nice looking car.  Can you have your friend supersize that for us?  ;D  Maybe just add water.

Now I can't wait to have one of our own.

In addition to the coffee cup, I love the railroad calendar on the wall!

Can the mysterious builder be identified?  Nice job.

Im sorry to say but I have forgotten the man's name! It was an open house for a model railroad group. I was rather busy running my locomotive and we had close to 40 people come through so the names are all a blur. I know he said that he had been in contact with Marcel up at the museum for info on the original.

I think it's Jack DiSarro.  He posts on the 7/8n2 forum on Yahoo.  Throughout the construction of the car, he posted progress photos to the forum.

He probably could build a 1:1 version, except for the trucks, with some help of course and using our super sized car shop.  If ever built, I wonder if the U.S. Postal Service could be talked into a one time R.P.O. Day.  The covers would sell like hot cakes.  Would be great news item and great publicity for us.
