B&SR Boxcars
« on: August 22, 2009, 10:46:47 AM »
I am new to the B&SR and to this list, and I have only just started to put together my B&SR book collection.  I am working on a garden railroad, which the new Bachmann forney is now making possible.

I would like to get working on some B&SR freight cars, but I need to know the outside height (at the roofwalk) of the B&SR 30 foot boxcars.  Can any one supply this measurement, along with the width and height of of the doors?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Al

First off, welcome aboard.
Secondly, there are many books out there, some of them fairly recent, that will really help you model these cars. I have one i just grabbed to find the answers you seek. It is called "Bridgton and Saco River Railroad Freight Cars" by Peter Barney. It was published in 2005 and spiral bound. Peter has found some excellent examples to look at, as well as some close up rivet counting shots.
Unfortunately, I don't see a drawing for a 30' car. But the 28 footers were 8' 11.5" from the top of the railhead to the top of the roofwalk. The 34" cars were 9' 1.75" from top of rail to top of roofwalk. They show no measurements for the doors. Hope this helped.

Sounds like 9 feet ought to be pretty close on the height.  Thanks for your reply.

Al,  FYI, the WW&F gift shop carries the book that Mike mentioned.  In fact the gift shop has all the Barney data books.
