Time to move this thread back to the top of the list.. Work is continuing, so we should include it here.
I had been tasked with acquiring the center pivot for the B&SR Turntable that is on loan to us from Maine Narrow Gauge. So with their permission, I removed it from the concrete base it was attached to. Some one had previously cut the nuts off in an attempt to remove it. This is what I found when I looked at it in January.
Today, I came prepared. It was cemented to the base with a mortar, that they also used as a leveling compound. Locked it in good. My plan was use the air hammer to remove the mortar, then drill under and use some feather and wedges to pop it loose.
Only it didn't pop loose. That mortar was up in the bolt holes. I kept after it, using air to blow away the loose stuff around the bolts.
I could see daylight underneath after about 40 minutes of work. I was winning, but it was fighting my efforts.
An hour into it, and almost got it..
Ready for loading. This thing is heavy. I repositioned my truck so I could slide it in. If it ever hit the ground, I think I would have struggled getting it into the truck.
No wonder why it fought me..
