South Africa Port Shepstone engines for sale
« on: November 18, 2011, 02:30:25 PM »
As reported on NG Discussion forum:

Quote
The four NGG16 locos are at Port Shepstone KZN need to be removed from the premises by the end of November.

127 - complete needs boiler ticket.
139 - 80% complete needs overhaul.
151 - complete needs boiler ticket.
156 - stripped. (The last built NGG16)

Temporary storage could be arranged otherwise they need to be moved by road.

Owner wanted R1.3 million each but if not sold by end of month will be cut up where they stand. Scrap value R100 000.00 each. Based on this offers between scrap and asking price could be used as a guide. These are the last NGG16 2' 0" gauge locos around in such good condition.

It's worth noting that 1.3 million SA Rands = about $250,000, and 100,000 Rands = about $12,500.

I'm not advocating that the WW&F pick one up, but if anyone wants one in their backyard...

At scrap+ price it would make sense that our breatheren in Wales would scoop them up - hope they do.  They really do look impressive on the Welsh Highland and one day in the not too distant future I will ride behind one.

Having ridden behind two different Garratts recently, they are amazing machines. Not only the beauty of the restoration, but how very quiet they are in operation. Even working the 1 in 40 grades with long trains, they are very quiet. Must be the UK demeanor.

Yes, Welsh Highlands is the Mecca of the two footers.

All we need is the $12 million Government lottery grant like they got.
