Prebles at MHV
« on: May 06, 2009, 04:22:17 PM »
Prebles: It's probably done and will be delivered today to Maine Heritage Village.

Hi James,

Is the plan to send a little "snap-track" down with the Prebles station?

Best Regards,
Glenn

I've heard no plans regarding track in front of Prebles.

Glenn;
  Boothbay Railway village already has a length of track next to their building. Another one would be redundant.

Dave,  What type of building does Boothbay have at MHV?

Stewart;
  It just looked like a generic flag stop. I don't recall it being prototypical of any particular station. It's about the size of our Prebles.

Thanks for the info Dave,  Maybe someone will post photos of the Boothbay structure and our Prebles shelter when it's in position at MHV.  I think the grand opening for the facility is around May 15th.

It is my understanding that the Boothbay structure at MHV is an ex-MEC crossing shanty.

There was talk at the work weekend about putting some rail up as a display near Prebbles. This would involve taking two sticks of rail and burying them so that they stick up out of the ground vertically, with a 2x4 between them to represent a tie (and to keep them in 'gauge' at 2' apart.) Don't know if that made it beyond the 'idea' stage, but it sounded reasonable to me.

Regardless, let's hope it brings more interest (visitors, members, volunteers) to the WW&F and BRV.

As someone for whom words and correct spelling are important, isn't the name "Prebles" spelled with only one "b?"

Actually, shouldn't it be Preble's, and not Prebles?

That's what I keep telling my kids, not that they believe it!

As Dana said earlier today - the station has left the train. Preble's is now at MHV. Thanks to the Weeks Bros. and Steve Zuppa. I'll send a photo to Steve Hussar since I can't reduce them on a Mac though Steve may have taken his own which I'm sure he'll post later.

Thanks for posting Stephen. I can't help but notice that at least one traffic violation occurred in ferrying a "small depot" over Route 1. Good thing there were no Staties around!
