Historical Photo Recreations
« on: March 10, 2009, 09:54:16 AM »
In reading the topics on building 'new' old cars and trucks, and studying the picture Stephen included of the gravel train at Head Tide, I had a question:
Have we ever thought about or discussed the idea of recreating some of the pictures that were taken of the original railway?
This would provide a ready made 'script' for the picnic, charters,  or other seasonal events.
(The Mason's wreck pictures might not be doable except with Photoshop.  ;)  )
Any comments? Favorites pictures? Old idea?
How about a 'what if', such as the FS&K connection that Dana has researched?

Yes, in fact we had a spot all picked out for the recreation of that Head Tide shot... I know a few people who are definitely up for it. Gordon, it's a perfect idea for a photo shoot during an event!

A number of us have discussed this through the years, it's been one of my favorite topics.  The first recreation was at the Annual Picnic in 1998 when we had a U.S. Mail bag picked up by the train at Davis crossing.  Roger W. has the scene on videotape. The latest attempt to recreate an historic photo replicated the scene on the B&SR where express parcels were transferred between a boxcar and vintage truck.  The view shows the end of the boxcar and side of the truck.  I have a B&W image that Marcel took at Alna Center that looks just like the photo in the B&SR book.  Of course we are the WW&F and need to recreate scenes on our line.  The Head Tide shot is a great idea, sign me up!

Gordon,

We've talked about re-creating the Head Tide gravel train photo for quite a while and as Stephen noted we even have a spot picked out.  I have a large copy of the original photo from which I was going to work to position everyone.  It's just a matter of setting a time, getting the people together, and doing it.

Dana, I assume that you don't mean the original spot in the Head Tide cut?
That would be nice but we'll have to hurry up if we're all going to be able to make it. ;)

Nope,  there's a spot on Davis Grade that resembles the spot closely enough that with the right camera angle you'd barely know the difference.  Stephen Hussar and I scouted it out a couple of years ago.
