Track Work Plan for 5/9/09
« on: April 28, 2009, 01:18:04 PM »
Hi All,

     I'm planning to be at Sheepscot on 5/9 and I hope to work on the following if I get enough crew:

1.  Replank Sheepscot Mills Crossing
2.  Line the section of new track that has been tamped and get that in service.
3.  Haul more gravel to the low spots on the unballasted new section.

Dana;
  I'll see if I can convince my daughter ("Strong like bull" as Uncle Tonoose used to say) and her friend to drive up with me as long as you promise to retell the Moose story. She is a Moose virgin and I missed it as I was in Albion.

I'll see if i can get away and come up there.  Will we be hauling our gravel arround the revenue service trains?  i think it would be fun to see two trains...  having the steam train visit us on the hour.  the trains are running saturday and you are planning a full day's work.... right Dana?

I am planning for a full day of work.  Steam might not be running so motive power may be a challenge but that can be worked out.

The next steam is planned for Memorial Weekend.  We do have the Brookville; we could do flatcar shuffling at Alna Center using that if we need to.

We could, but are both the flatcars link and pin compatible? i think 118 has solid knuckles with no slot for the link

One end of 126 (and I think it's the north end) has a solid coupler; the other for 126 and both of 118's have slotted couplers.  Someday we should outfit 51 with regular couplers, although it would look kind of odd on it.

even though it would look odd, it would make it far more usefull, and hopefully the intended couplers would be slotted for our remaining link and pin cars.  overall i think it would just make operations with the loco safer

     I had thought about using 51 and if we do we will have to "load light and go often", as my grandfather used to say, since it is all downgrade from the height of land at Alna Center to the EOT.  Slow running and a strong brakeman will be essential.  We'll also have to get the loader run up to AC for loading cars.  Both of 118's couplers are slotted and one of 126's.

     First order of business will be replanking Sheepscot Mills crossing.

I usually get to Sheepscot by 6:30 AM or so and I like to get going as close to 7 as possible.

Dana
The Case loader is allready at Alna Center. It was used to load two flatcars last Sunday afternoon. The rented air compressor was off loaded at Alna Center.
