On Saturday, January 6th a small group consisting of Bob L, Dante, Nick, and Dan, worked on cleaning out the old waste in #10s drive boxes and made new "T" shaped foam inserts. The inserts will act like a sponge and when compressed, squeeze oil to the necessary components.

Folks,
There has not been an update on the #10 since January. Has it been decided to complete the #11 first? What about the new
boiler for the #10?

Here are the reports posted by the RR Superintendent (in the Member's-only BOD Meeting Notes) since Jan 2024:

Jan: The new smokebox front adapter ring has been fitted up and welded by the No 10 team. The team has also cleaned the driving boxes and installed lubrication sponges. Once Boxcar 56 has vacated Shop 3 we plan to use a portion of the bay to organize boiler parts.

Feb: The No 10 team has completed cleaning and installation of driving box oil sponges, and have made plans to install the lubrication system. Additionally they had a strong presence at the Amherst Railway Show and were able to raise both money and awareness.

March: The No 10 team plans to continue work sessions on lubrication systems, smokebox assembly and further work as to be determined.

April: The No 10 team continues to meet when their schedules align. They have measured pistons and bores for replacement rings, and discussed lubrication system design further. We have also discussed what support role the team may play for ML&M’s boiler construction.

May: The No 10 team hasn’t had time to meet since the last report. Many of these team members are heavily engaged in other Museum activities.

Note, in the Jan update, the implication was made that the boiler parts will be gathered and sorted in Bay 3 of the shop once Boxcar 56 is completed. That should be occurring in the coming weeks.

Trust me Ted, albeit progress is slow (mainly due to my schedule) we haven't given up or stopped completely.

Bryce,  do you have a planned date for working on #10 in June?  I'm looking at making a foundry run from Cattail up to Maine and to take stuff back to Cattail.  Would like to kill two birds with one stone.........

A large crew was busy on No. 10 yesterday.  Sorry I did not catch names.

Early on, a portion of the crew reviewing the smoke box cylinder saddle.

Later, taking inventory of No. 10's boiler parts.  Bob Longo is reading the parts list as other volunteers confirm each part number.
We want...A SHRUBBERY!  One that looks nice, and not too expensive.
