Wait til ya see the rest of the calendar.  Great shots,  especially the image of Fred the Sheepscot station agent.

The WW&F Railway Museum's 25th Anniversary calendars went on sale today.  The special B&W 2014 edition went fast with some people buying multiple copies.  The calendars sell for $15 with proceeds going towards two-foot restoration projects.  It was fun watching people as they flipped through the new calendars and said "wow, look at this!"

Many thanks to Stephen Link  Hussar

Nicely done. I am looking forward to next year when I can look at O. Winston Hussars creations every day.

Just for fun, a variation: Congratulations to Stephen (Jim Shaughnessy) Hussar. Jim was another who learned rather early on to make wonderful night shots.

I hope the moderator won't feel this is too far off the topic, but thinking of nighttime photos reminded me of the RR night shot to end all RR night shots, taken at Horseshoe Curve in 1954. It had two PRR freights plus the Pennsy's westbound passenger train Trailblazer on the curve. It was used in an ad campaign for Sylvania flash bulbs (remember those, anybody?) and I THINK, not positive, that it was taken by the Burns Brothers, commercial photogs in Schenectady NY. Anyway, no less than 6,000 Sylvania flash bulbs were fired off for the shot. The Burns boys did several other nighttime spectaculars for Sylvania in that campaign, always chosen because they involved huge quantities of Sylvania bulbs. To my knowledge none of the three brothers was a rail fan, but they did do several assignments for Alco during my time there 1953-1960.

So many WW&F "fridge" photo magnets were sold this Summer that we had to order more.  Most of the images are the popular views listed in the earlier thread but there is a new one that came in today.  The photograph shows our own Julius, working as the Alna Center station agent.  The view shows Julius standing on the platform, waving to passengers as the train pulls in.  The image was taken by John Mac from #52's cab.  This is one of the best magnets in the series, in fact two sold today!

The price is $2.50 each.  Please check the gift shop link for additional info.

Got to the museum today for the first time in nearly two months and saw (and purchased three copies of) the 2014 calendar.  All I can saw is "WOW!"  By far the best calendar the museum has produced, very fitting for our 25th anniversary.  Truly a work of artistry and skill, Stephen.

Yes, thanks Stephen!

As evidence of Stephen's artistry, this weekend I will be buying three more calendars at my wife's behest. She even wants one for her office and she's never asked for anything having to do with the WW&F (she will also be getting the new magnet in her Christmas stocking). Four of those calendars are for folks who looked at my copy and had to have one for themselves. None of them are were railroad fans. Everyone who sees it ooo's and ah's over it. I'd say it belongs in a museum but it's already in one! Bravo Stephen!

Yesterday, a fellow from CA stopped by the railroad.  He was on his way to Bangor and had heard about the WW&F from volunteers at the CA State RR Museum where he is a docent.  I showed him around and he was impressed with the buildings and equipment.  We ended the tour in the gift shop and he looked over our sale items.  When he saw the 2014 calendar he flipped through the pages, taking time to study each image. He purchased a copy and then said "this museum is wonderful, I want to become a member".  After he filled out the membership slip, I gave him a years worth of newsletters.  He thanked me and said that he may be back Saturday to ride the train.

As Dave noted, there has been a positive reaction to the new calendars.  They even help recruit new members!

New items -

Coasters - Four photo coasters, featuring some rare (not published in print media) views of the WW&F, taken over the last 16 years. $1.50 each or 4 for $5

Christmas ornaments - New caramic Christmas tree balls with an image of locomotive #9 on one side and holly decorations on the other.  $7.50 each

Book marks - Never before have these been offered! A nice laminated bookmark with your choice of string color. Bookmark features a classic image of #9 with the museum's information.  Great way to keep the place in your favorite Maine Two-Foot book.  $2 each

To date we have sold 105 calendars - which means we still have plenty left in inventory!  I hope everyone will be stocking up during the work weekend.
