Steve,
I think some of us "awayer's" would love to pitch in and help with this project over the weekend. Save me a few nails to drive.

are we going to put a section of track infront of it as was discussed earlier?  I for one think it would complete the picture...

Questions, questions:
Was it painted?
Why did this structure get the funky shingling treatment ?
Where was Prebles?
Why did Preble get a flag stop?
Is it pronounced 'prebbles', or  'preebles'?

It would be nice to have some sort of activity or slide show on the weekends. Something to hook visitor's attention and get them to look around for a few minutes. Ideas?

This must be the only photo of this station, published anyway. This was the photo I was refering to. And had the description in my mind when I was telling Zack and others at the museum. I'm glad that this was decided on as it is the perfect size.

Prebles was in Whitefield between Whitefield and North Whitefield.  You can get there today by driving down Narrow Gauge Lane or something similar to a swamp.  There's a helicopter company further along the road.  The ROW is running straight down the swamp.  The flag stop was probably for the helicopters  ;D

I've always pronounced it 'preb-bles'.

I believe the road is Town Farm Lane.  From Carleton Crossing on 218, it's about 2.1 miles north to the the lane, which if I recall is a dirt road.  As James said, when you get to the swamp, you've found the right-of-way -- it's all under water.
What–me worry?

Gordon, Good to see you on the track weekend.  Here's what I know of the Prebles shelter.

The structure was not painted although there may have been sealing paint on the window sashes.  The shingles are cedar but are known as cedar "shakes" which are cut in a random length.  The Preble family probably funded and built the structure that's why the shingles are different from other WW&F buildings.  It was built to serve their large farm.  The railroad agreed since the Preble family used the railroad to ship milk.  The location is Town Farm Lane where the Maine Helicopter sign is.

Steve Z. has done a beautiful job building the replica.

I second that.  The window is perfect.

I wonder if that fellow walking out of the photo may have just put the cream cans there on the platform?

Thanks to all for the answers. Steve's version of Preble's is beautiful, indeed, and kudos to all that are making this happen so quickly.

A maybe related factoid:  There is a Preble Street in Portland, in the Bayside section.
