Merriddyn Emerys hauls record 13 coaches!
« on: November 05, 2008, 07:23:41 AM »
I saw on one of the discussion forums for Wales that Double Fairlie Merriddyn Emerys (spelling is probably way off) hauled a record 13 coaches the other day.

Glenn/Frank, I don't know if you guys counted coaches on the day we took our trip, but there had to be at least 11 coaches.

13 carriages is the absolute limit for any passenger train on the FR, in normal circumstances, due to the length of passing loops. We don't usually go beyond 11 during the main season, when several trains are running, as some loops are shorter than others.

The spelling is Merddin Emrys - IIRC it's the Welsh form of Merlin, the legendary Mediaeval wizard associated with King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
