While "cot some company" looks like a typo, "cot" may be the appropriate word after all.  :)

If someone wants to share the cost with a snoring old man, I would share a room at the Wiscasset Motor Inn.

Hey all,

Just wanted to let you guys know that due to my current work schedule at work, I plan on being at the museum for the Spring work weekend. I look foward to it.

Track work at Conway Scenic is a little different from that of the narrow gauge, aside from the machines that we have. At first I thought a neumatic air hammer was the greatest thing in the world, however, it won't work on every tie. Some ties are to hard, so the air hammer just bounces off the spike, so then we have to finish them off by hand. All in all, a spike maul is also a lot lighter to carry than an air hammer.

I was dissapointed to miss the fall work weekend, due to my work schedule, but hey, such is life.

Talk to you guys later.

Joe

Ps. When do you guys start working on Fridays for the work weekend?

Joe;
Work starts as usual about 7 though we don't roll out till about 7:30. Email me backchannel or talk to your Dad as we have a special project that you might like to join us for on Saturday, April 25.

Room 320 at the Sheepscot Hilton has two bunks currently reserved but the third one may be available.

What about the "Attic Floor Inn" above the machine shop? Is there stll space on the floor (as in: "not filled with stuff")?
If so, would the BOD be ok with me crashing there? Is anyone else seriously planning on doing this as well?kor
I WILL have that weekend off, so come "Heckorhigh Water"I will be there.
 ;) ;D

The BOD is uncomfortable with anyone bunking on the second floor of the car shop, because there's only 1 exit.  However there are other options: tenting, on the floor of stations, the caboose.

Well, any of those three works for me. All I'd need is enough space (roughly 6'x3') to spread my sleeping bag.  ;)
I'll make sure I have my tent along as well. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us this year.  ;D

I myself have tried the Alna Center Inn. Definately for the ones who like to get away. No power, no water, no toilet. But very quiet.

Just watch out for the poison ivy that grows along the east side of the station area if you have to wander outside in the dark!

Looks like my inquiry about where to stay started a good discussion.  Thanks to all for the input - my wife and I will be arriving at the Wiscasett Morot Lodge Thrusday PM.  Which raises another question:  Any of the fellows staying there with whom I can hitch a 7 AM ride Friday - Sunday to the museum so I can leave the rental car with the wife?  And - yes - I realize that can be dangerous as LL Bean and surrounding shops are only miles down the road!

Michael,
Most of the fellows who stay at the Motor Lodge leave around 5:30 - 6:00 AM to head to Ships Chow for breakfast.  You might want to be a sport and treat the missus to breakfast before you go to the museum.  I'm sure someone of us at the diner can bring you over to the museum after breakfast.

Michael,

Ship's Chow Hall is located a couple of miles north of the motor lodge on U.S. Route 1, on the opposite side of and close to Big Al's.  Saturday and Sunday morning there should be a bunch of volunteers leaving from the motor lodge, but I don't know about Friday morning.  I generally drive up from home early on Friday and suspect that's the case for a lot of folks.
