AMTRAK to meet WWF at Waterville?

Steep Falls, ME based Rail Users' Network states in its Winter newsletter that:
  "The restoration of passenger service to Brunswick in 2010 should be viewed as the first step for extending service to Augusta, Waterville and beyond. Track rehabilitation and automatic grade crossings are needed for higher passenger speed service."
So, you guys and gals might need to start track toward Waterville so that you can meet the Amtrak train and take on passengers. I understand Amtrak and the Strassburg RR are planning this some day.

A more realistic goal is extending toward Wiscasset and having a joint station with the Maine Eastern, who will meet Amtrak in Brunswick.

Of course, the road crossing is issue No. 1 - FRA No.2

Maybe with federal funds, we could get some 60lb CWR, for the high speed connection to the Waterfront ;D.
  Honestly though, I think it would be a great if a tour group set up travel from Boston. Ride to Wiscasset by rail, have a bus for the ride to Alna, Ride the WW&F and return. May have to make it into a 2 day event though, depending on timing.

how 'bout getting a tour company to set up downeaster to portland, bus to bruswick, maine eastern to wiscasset, or better yet newcastle, short bus/van to sheepscot. can do this summer, no fed funds, no risk as don't run if not enuf passengers.... dale

Well, that WOULD be a start!
I thonk it could be done quite easily (once the restroom facilities and ADA compliant features are in place  ;) )

Seriously, I was thinking of just that sort of thing last night.
I gather that since Wiscassett is roughly twice the distance (and the obstacles) as the currently operating mainline, it should take roughly 20 yrs to build all the way there from Sheepscott...
...once the project is started! :-\

How many miles does the ROW go from Sheepscot to Wiscasset?  ??? ::) :)

Well, I looked at at least one thread to find the answer to this, and no luck, so:
IIRC, it's about 6 miles to Wiscassett. BUT! What I don't know is, is that to the Alna/Wiscassett town line, (Not so likely) or to somewhere in/around Downtown?
Looking at the area along the waterfront near the ME tracks, there certainly appears to be enough room for a station there to meet the ME trains, but how available is how much of it is anyone's guess.

Sheepscot Station is at milepost 4.8.  Mile 0 is either the diamond with the Maine Central or the Rt 1 crossing (there's some uncertainty about which one it is).

Maybe someone up there should call Senator Snow and have her add $1.5 Billion to the "stimulus bill".  Reasons: completely restore the only two foot to tide water railroad in the US, provide 'mass' transportation to the area, provide more jobs in the area (support tourists) and add a project to the bill that actually would create jobs in Maine.

You guys haven't been paying attention. One of the Republican Senators put an amendment into the final Senate version of the Stimulus Package prohibiting any money in the stimulus being used for museums. The Association of Railroad Museums is asking all of its members to write to their Senators and Congressmen to eliminate this prohibition during the negotiations to come up with a final "joint" bill.
