progress, maybe?
« on: January 30, 2009, 05:42:05 PM »
looks like a railroad in california took Frank Winter's idea of no maintenance one step further.

Take a look...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TotIBS8fTQ

Should get a laugh out of it at least....

Well, it IS adoreable, but...
(looking at the signage and the rolling stock,) I don't think it's in California ;)

I got a location of of a related video of the same footage here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajtMJokACUA This led me to the video in my fist post which jogged the pun.

The video's description said that it was located at "Yermo Road near Interstate 15 at Calico Ghost Town, California, September 2008"  And seeing as the footage was so increadibly similar, I figured it was the same location.  google maps puts it arround 75mi. NE of LA

That is definately posted wrong. Not in the US. Signage is all wrong. Lack of Couplers on the front of the engine al;so make me think it is overseas someplace.

Actually, it is Poland as I remember riding a similar route in 1991. The line had been out of service for two years when we rode over it. No pre trip work, just plow through the weeds. We did have all the necessary re-railing tools in the box car, but never used them once.
The loco was a 23rd of October Romanian diesel.

I enjoyed the train beating up the road sign...seemed poetic.

Did you notice that the vestibule door on the end of the coach is open, with what might be a person standing in it (admitedly, it's dificult to tell,) until it hits the sign and slams closed?
