Wayne Laepple wrote:Hello all --
I am in need of 5-6 35mm images of the WW&F for an article for a major publication. I am specifically seeking a few good views that illustrate the railroad, progress, work, and potential of our museum. Any photos used will be credited and paid for. This article is scheduled for publication just prior to the Narrow Gauge Convention this summer, unless I am unable to provide the necessary photography. No copy slides, please. The originals are required, but will be returned.
E-mail me at mailto:K4s1361@hotmail.com if you can help me out and thanks in advance.
Cheers -- Wayne Laepple
Mike Fox replied:I know you said 35mm but how about digital?

Wayne Laepple replied:No, digital photos will not work. From what I gather, the quality is not good enough to make photographic plates for offset printing. 35mm is required.
Joe Fox replied:How about a photo of Alna Center, when the track stopped right at the platform, and the steaks were layed out for the siding and main line?

Stewart Rhine replied:Wayne, I have a bunch of slides of the WW&F but the newest one is from about 4 years ago. I have been using print and digital ever since.
Wayne Laepple replied:Stewart to the rescue! In spite of just returning from his honeymoon, Stewart rounded up a dozen slides this week and sent them off for possible publication. I hadn't realized until I embarked on my recent quest that digital photography has all but eclipsed film.

FYI, there is some information about digital picture formats of submission for publishing in the latest Trains. I think the July issue (I don't have it in front of me).
I believe that a digital file is OK as long as it hasn't been renamed and is in the native format, i.e. no reduction in pixels, or Photoshopping allowed.
