A couple of photos today taken in the engine house bay 2.  Much progress is evident; perhaps Jason can share some details seen in these photos.

We want...A SHRUBBERY!  One that looks nice, and not too expensive.

Thanks for posting some progress photos, Bill.

Latest efforts have focused on the brake system, which is now largely done save for some heavy component welding to the main frame.  That will wait to be grouped with other heavy welding.

Next attention will be on jackstand construction.  This will begin with subassembly weldment fabrication in the shop, followed by some mag-drill work on the telescoping tubes.  Following this, the hydraulic cylinders will be fitted to the tubes, along with their hydraulic hard plumbing.  Finally- the jackstands will be ready for their heavy component welding to the cart frame.  That will be a job unto itself, which will include the final brake component welding.

That will be the majority of the main assembly of the cart.  After this, we will fabricate a stand for the HPU and install it over the floating wheel carriage (with Brendan’s help), then turn full attention to the hydraulic system.  The hydraulic system will be constructed as a manual system, then retrofitted to be remote controlled.

We consider the cart capable of hauling the excavator anywhere on the railroad now- via towing.

Thanks again for highlighting this Bill- I do appreciate it.

Jason

As the cart operator's seat is in the Kubota excavator, I'd expect the cupholder is likely mounted on the  Kubota.  8)

Today, 7/23/2025, we ran our self-designed and volunteer-built "X-Cart" for the first time! This will allow the museum to automate much of our track work, including tie changing, ditching, brush removal, and phone line maintanance.

Here's a few clips of the trial runs; we are very, very pleased.

The first part of the clip shows an intriguing possibility for the “A1 Hobo Experience”

That's awesome! Seems very tricky to get the kubota on it. Are there plans to add trailer-like ramps or other ways to improve the loading/unloading process?
