WW&F MoW1018 X-Cart- Official Work Thread

Saturday May 11 2024 marked the formal beginning of assembly for the excavator cart, assigned MoW#1018.

James and Brendan worked on assembling the floating wheel carriage, which provides equalization for the 4 wheel cart.

Today, my father and I began assembling the main frame, after unloading and separating most laser cut components from the crate.

Assembly and welding will be complete this month.  Following this we have to build the hydraulic system, followed by the control system.

We will try to keep this thread updated.

After looking at the plans, I have a couple questions. Are the jackstands extended/retracted hydraulically? How does the excavator fit on the cart?

The excavator drives onto the cart on the end. It will sit nested in C-Channel, but also be secured to the cart to prevent accidental shifting/movement.

The jacks are hydraulic, 2 being vertical and 2 being outrigger style like a backhoe. There will be a hydraulic power unit on the cart to provide the hydraulic power.

For those of you who may be confused ( as I was) I believe that it is being assembled upside down.
I had to go back and look at the assembly drawing earlier in the thread.

This is true.  Alternatively, you can consider the cart right side up and the enginehouse upside down.

Mike was close in his explanation.  The final design utilizes (4) jackstands, the rear two angled outward 30 degrees.  There is a 5th similar assembly which will make up part of an excavator mounted tie changer we are also constructing.

I'd be inclined to believe that were true if the enginehouse was in Australia, but alas it's in Alna.
