2024 Training News
« on: April 09, 2024, 09:01:57 PM »
Hello Train Crew,
This message is from your new WW&F Training Officer to let you know the spring rules class is on April 20th - which is coming right up. There is another one scheduled for September. I'm in the process of going through the crew roster so I can email anyone who is due for their triennial class, but you can double check your status on the roster as well. My plan is to run the basic rules review as a Bingo game to keep it engaging. I'll have some prizes from the gift shop, too. Please email me (pete dot stevens at wwfry dot org) if you plan to be there or if you need a virtual rules class - or some other arrangement.

We'll make sure:
- everyone has the latest revision of the rules book.
- all personal data is up to date.
- everyone is aware of recent changes to the rules.
- to make it as enjoyable as we can.

I'll use this as an opportunity to remind everyone that Rule 204 requires a rules class and a rules test every three years. It also requires that all train crew members serve as brakeman one day per year, so make sure to get yourself signed up for that when you can.

Pretty good idea the Bingo game with rewards. Too late to use it in Pithiviers since our "only" annual safety meeting was last Saturday. But I'll talk to our director in charge of safety about that smart initiative that could be engaging for those that are not to much into safety.

Rules review starts at 10:00 in the engine house. I’ve emailed everyone who is entered in the crew roster with details. Anyone is welcome to attend.

The center stall of the engine house has been cleared of lumber and cleaned.  There are some chairs in the engine house, mostly Fred's dentist office chairs.  If more are needed, there are folding metal chairs in the cellar, behind the archive room wall.

Thank you Stewart! I plan to bring up a few tables in the morning for Bingo. Should be about 20 people.

Many thanks to everyone who helped make the Rules Review Class happen! Thanks to Stewart for getting the engine house tidied up. Thanks to Dan for organizing a crew to get tables and chairs set up and for so flexibly taking on the role of training engineer in the afternoon. Thanks to somebody for putting it all away afterwards!! Thanks to Jason for all the assistance getting myself organized before hand and for jumping in during the review to add much needed levels of detail. And many thanks to all the participants for showing up as well as adding helpful perspectives on many rules. I plan to take this experience and build on it as I prepare the fall rules review class.

We had 30 participants in total, 8 of whom are yet to be entered into the training program, and another 8 of whom are currently in the training program. There was a very healthy age spread represented - at least three were under 15 - which speaks well for the long range future of the operating crew!

Thank you Pete for providing such a great program!  Definitely different than we’ve tried in the past, and effective I believe.  I look forward to what more you have in store for us.  Hopefully others found yesterday’s program as valuable.

Thanks
Jason

SAFETY FIRST The first ever rule on the railway like on the other transportation means. Happy about we have new volunteers to train. I wish it would be the same in Pithiviers.
