7.5 in scale live steamer for sale (B&SR #7)

As part of my daily scrounging on the Internet, I came across a live steamer for sale in Maryland that was built to plans for #7 of the B&SR.  Since #7 is a regular visitor to the WW&F I thought it would be nice to link to the ad if anyone was interested or knew of someone who would be interested.  I or the museum have no financial interest in this sale.  Information is provided as a courtesy.

Sure is a great price for that engine.  You could flip it for twice that. The Mrs would like that.  Of course a test run or two would be in order to see what you got.

I'll bet if we put in a small oval of 7.5 gauge track, built a couple of cars, and offered rides, it would be better than the hand car hops.  Then we would be in competition with Edaville.

Several of the British steam railways have adjacent live steam trains that are quite popular with the kids. At least a couple of them are simple out and back rides -- no loops necessary.

Thinking along the lines of 7 1/2 at the museum, I have a Forney based on WW&F No 10, gondola and caboose. Engine and caboose are large enough for adults to ride INSIDE. The engine is NOT live steam--battery operated.  Safe for children to be around and even operate.  Lately I find maintaining and running my railroad is increasingly difficult.

I should also mention I have a lap of track with 2 switches one of which is a 3 way stub like at Sheepscot.  AND there's a 5ft x 7ft station like at SS, AC and TB.

Strasburg has a miniature railroad next to their station.  The kids seem to like it more than the big stuff. 

From the responses I'm seeing, maybe we should give some serious consideration to having a live steam set-up somewhere on the museum property.  Of course, it would have to be with the approval of the BOD and with proceeds benefitting the museum.  I could see it being at Alna Center, TOM, or somewhere on the edge of main campus.

I would ask that one of our BOD members bring this up at the next board meeting to see how this could possibly work. (Mike Fox, could I impose on you to ask the question?)

Well, if the BOD wants to start a fund raising expansion, perhaps at TOM where we have lots of room, here is a ready made live steam #7, a battery operated #10 with a flat and a caboose.  Sound could be added to the #10 to make the ride more authentic. 

Perhaps it would attract a whole new group of model railroaders to our Museum.

One can dream. There’s no way I could have that at home.

Remember that a 7 - 1/2” gauge locomotive would not fit any of the tracks here in New England.
In all of New England, New York, New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania….the tracks are 7 - 1/4” gauge. This is true also of Eastern Canada and virtually all of the rest of the world. It is only in the southern U.S. Mid-West and Western U.S. where the tracks are gauged at 7 - 1/2”.
If any member is thinking about this locomotive and hopes to run it on the many club or private tracks here in the Northeast….it won’t fit the tracks.
