Work done on Saturday April 15:

* Drainage work: Mike (sort of assisted by me) dug out for 3 pipe lengths in the parking lot and put in the last catch basin.  I tried my hand at using the excavator, and have to say that Mike makes it look easy.
* Engine house: Stewart worked on the windows.
* Boxcar 56: Marcel was starting to put tin on the roof.
* Archives room: The folks building out the archives room were putting up sheetrock.
* Grant work: Nicole and Ed were working on grant prep.

Also, Bill and Dave traveled to Ossipee, N.H. to pick up a van load of books, magazines, ephemera and other railroad stuff left to the WW&F by Dwight.

Got the trench for the first pipe dug quickly.

Started backfilling

All done with the first one, tried to be quick to allow full access to the house

And Fred got the riding tractor running..

More digging

Ready for the last piece of pipe..

With a little extra help from Steve P. and Johnny, we got it in.

Filled in and semi smooth..

I will be working in the same area next weekend. More pipe, as long as I get some..

Digging planned between the ramp and the road. Pucking up the curbing and gravel to build the area up slightly. Please do not park there.

Work done on Saturday April 22:

* Train show in Westbrook, Marcel was supposed to be manning it (I didn't go, so can't tell you if he was there or not).
* Engine house: Stewart, Zack, and Fred were busy.  I know that Fred was rebundling shingles.  Not sure what the others were doing.
* Dirt: In honor of Earth Day, Mike was moving a lot of it around.  He dug out a ditch to extend the culverts to the road ditch, put them in and filled it in.  We then placed the parking curbs.

Other people were doing other stuff, but I don't know what exactly.

Marcel (and a bunch of other WW&F folks) did stop in at the Westbrook train show, but we did not have a formal table. The WW&F will be exhibiting at the Topsham train show NEXT Saturday (4/29) with Marcel and Jay Wiley manning that table.

Other work done included:
* A small grant application for a platform extension at Trout Brook (Ed, Brendan)
* Linda was busy receiving a ton of new materials for the archives. At this point, her current archive room is stuffed full - the new archive room can not come soon enough!

My only photo of the day..

Why the drainage? Several years ago I had tried to figure what it would take to divert the water that was flowing by the turntable and through the yard. The problem increased with the creation of the parkinglot. We have now almost completely caught the water that flows from the parking area. The first catch basin made a big improvement. The last 2 and the pipe to the ditch will also help.

Well, I took a few photos, as Mike and James worked...

Mike starting the trench from the catch basin he installed a week toward the ditch by Cross Road, as James looks on.

With the trench dug about halfway from the catch basin, Mike trenched back from the street ditch.

With the culvert sections in place, Mike backfilling around 2 p.m.

I can see in Mike's photo a lot more work was done after I left at about 2.30 p.m.
What–me worry?
