EBT test fires #16
« on: February 02, 2023, 02:11:29 AM »
As some of you may know, 2/1/23 the EBT test fired #16 and ran it under her own power in the Orbisonia yard. There has been great photos and videos posted in various media groups of the occasion.

Hats off to the entire EBT crew for the tremendous achievement and restoration undertaking in such a short turn around.

I must say, watching the videos reminded me of seeing #9 operate under her own power for the first time in decades. I am certain those guys had the same feeling we all did watching the testing of #9. 😊

I'm planning to be there on Feb. 18 for the Winter Spectacular -- 57 years after the first one. Anyone else going?

The last I heard, No. 15 is next in line. That's after No. 16 is fully in service.

I believe the though was that 15 was too clapped out and 14 would be next (I heard better condition on the boiler, but could be wrong). However after dropping the wheels out of 14 the scope of work needed turned out to be a bigger job than expected and they pivoted to doing work on 15 first. 14's still getting it's work done but it's now behind 15 in the immediate plans.

I've just finished watching a wonderful YouTube video: "The most INCREDIBLE preserved railroad almost didn't survive - these people SAVED it."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMvU-lgPE-A
At time 08:44, the person speaking about restoration of the smoke stacks reports the discovery of a duck (doubtless looking for Jason).
