When we reach Wiscasset...
« on: December 12, 2022, 01:23:17 PM »
...I understand we will be adopting the new technology described in this article so Amtrak's Downeaster can depart the Rockland branch at Wiscasset and terminate at Sheepscot Station.
What–me worry?

With the new technology the Downeaster can proceed all the way to TBS.

Trout Brook bridge is a good point, which I didn't think of.  I said Sheepscot because some of the curves at Cockeye Curve and on the Mountain Extension would pose an equal challenge, I suspect.

Still...pretty amazing technology!!

It is amazing technology.  At first blush, my immediate thought was I would trust this about as far as I do(n't) for self-driving cars.  But in the context of Swiss railway engineering and application, this does look brilliant.

Well, at least they would clear the ROW across the school ball field and install the 218 crossing thereby saving us a ton of money when we get to that point.
