November 2022 Work Reports
« on: October 30, 2022, 12:40:31 PM »
All,
Just a reminder that our now annual work day in Phillips is next Saturday, November 5, 2022. We plan to leave Sheepscot at 7:30 a.m. Sharon has requested a count for lunch purposes. As those who have attended previously, lunch alone is worth the ride. Please post here if you plan on attending. Hope to see you that day.
Dave

I'll be going to Sandy river R.R. next and Zack told me he plans to go. I hope we get enough people to To finish the Third Bay track. I'm sure there will be plenty of food. I can take some people from Sheepscot Station.

Unfortunately I can not attend this year but I'm sure there will be a good crew to put in the 3rd track.

Anticipated work for Saturday, November 5:

* SR&RL work day: one day per year we donate our efforts elsewhere.  This year it's at SR&RL to help them build their last track into their carbarn.  Fred's leaving Sheepscot at 7, Dave at 7:30.

For those not going to SR&RL... (there won't be many)
* Enginehouse construction (if Brendan's around)
* Trout Brook Station painting (it will be 70 degrees!)
* Ticket Sales/Management - Ed will be creating and administering the launch of tickets for Christmastime Trains to SeaLyon Farm.

Work on Friday, November 4th -

* Engine House - more shingle work was done on the front wall.

* Store - 4 mail orders were packaged and shipped out.

* Shop - Monson engine 3 is at Sheepscot for its defective tank to be removed. Brendan with some help from Jason accomplished the #3 work first, then they pulled Monson #4's tank so it can be installed on MRR #3.

* Campus - A car barn clean-up and dump run was made with all the ice & water shield wrap that was left from the engine house roof work.

Work done on Saturday Nov 5 - at Sheepscot (I'll let the SR&RL crew report separately).

* Enginehouse: Stewart was putting shingles over the enginehouse bay doors.  He finished the middle bay and started on the east bay.  Meanwhile I worked on getting tarpaper up on the west wall so that Brendan and Roger could put the windows in.  Most of the west wall is done except way up high, which probably needs scaffolding.  Brendan also got the west man door in.  I put a few more pieces up around windows and on the east wall.
* Platform work: In prep for the station/platform stabilization, Alan cut the platform by the shelter and started to remove boards.  A few boards came out with almost no prompting.
* Ed was making ticket sales for Christmas trains live.

I don't what the temperature was but I was in short sleeves at 9.  Nicely warm temps for November!

We had a very good turnout. Fred, Zack, Brian, Steve Lt, Leon and Jared Weeks, Marcel, Jay Wiley, Ken Berlo, Paul R, Elijah (I think that was his name) and myself. If I forgot someone I appologize.

SR&RL had an equally impressive number. I can' t even to begin to name them, but we worked well together and finished the track.

We showed up this morning to find the switch mainly complete, or at least done enough to start laying track.

Inside the carbarn, the Phillips crew had laid out the ties and distributed ballast this week.

Ready for Fred..

Those of us there early started getting the ties cleaned off and ready for track in the Carbarn.

We headed outside and started working the rails..

Fred and Zack keeping an eye on us..

Lunch!

It was a very warm 73 when I left at 3..
