Mountain Extension Cleanup
« on: June 22, 2022, 10:45:57 AM »
Please join me on July 16th for a last clean up of the Mountain Extension. We will be renting a wood chipper and cutting at least 2 trees that are very close to the tracks. We should leave Sheepscot about 8:30, and will return after the arrival of the first afternoon train at Top of the Mountain, which should be a southbound departure about 2pm, or we could work later if we feel like or have more to do, we just have to decide that prior to the first northbound revenue train.

The wood chipper has been reserved. I need to pick it up that morning, so may be a slight delay in the 8:30 departure by the time we get it loaded and ready to go.

What a great day Saturday. We had lots of help, and got more done than I could have planned. A special thank you to Scott and Jason for their help getting the train ready Friday and Nancy Weeks for the food and Cindy for the delivery. I can't name everyone that was there, because I am horrible with names, but can show pictures.

This is where I wanted to concentrate. The trees were cut a few years ago with the plan of taking care of it as soon as we could.

We did not cut the trees I had thought about cutting. They don't look to be in the way too except maybe visibility, so we left them. They are the ones closest to the track in the above photo.

It did not take long with this size of crew to make a huge difference.

I trimmed the stumps to match the slope. Really cleaned it up nice.

Finished this stretch by lunch.

After lunch, we started at Fossel Rd cleaning and trimming, finishing where we started. No before pictures, bu a couple of after..

Between the wall and location 8.

Flat car is sitting at the wall. We are done.

All packed up and ready to head south to meet the revenue train at TOM. We lucked out at TOM and our neighbor Don Lyons asked about the wood on the flat car. So we unloaded it there for him to have. Most of it was hemlock and spruce that was starting to get punky. We would have never used it otherwise.

Great job by all.  You even made an abbuter happy with the donation of the flatcar load of wood.
