History repeats itself.  Just spotted this ad on the Wiscasset Newspaper website:



The first line echoes the promotional material to build the W&Q.

If you click on the link above and go to the Wiscasset Newspaper site, clicking on the banner ad on their site offers up a PDF that you can read/save. So here is a screenshot of the (whimsical?) graphic at the top of that PDF showing the Wiscasset waterfront:

The railroad is hard to miss, but there is also a steam train in the upper left.  ;)

That etching of Wiscasset pre-dates the construction of the W&Q/WW&F. The track (and train) represent the Knox & Lincoln Railroad (later the Maine Central Rockland Branch.)

The W&Q/WW&F was constructed on pilings in the river, roughly where the ships are docked in the drawing. The pier in the upper right was removed prior to the construction of the narrow gauge.
