Credit must also extend to Gordon who has been in the shop 3 days this week machining components for No 11’s rear frame.  He’s gotten various assistance from Dan and others.

I was in on Tuesday to work with Wes on steam loco maintenance and planning.

Thanks,
Jason

Work done on Saturday March 5:

* Backhoe: Mike got all new ho$e$ for the arm and with the help of Fred, myself, Pete and Cody got them installed and the cylinder installed.  He then removed two more hoses to get them replaced.
* Turntable: Ed, Cody and I removed three of the four wheels of the exx-Bridgton/ex-Edaville/MNG/future Rt 218 Turntable and brought them over to the shop, where Nicole and new volunteer Amanda made them pretty.
* Saw blades: Brian moved the saw blade sharpener from the garage to Fred's Shed, and proceeded to sharpen all the blades he could find in preparation for spring tie cutting.

"Making them look pretty" consisted of drilling and tapping for new grease fittings, then polishing and greasing the axles and pillow boxes. Alan ran to Ames to get appropriate bolts for re-installation. Mike Fox assisted in re-installing the first set of wheels; Ed and Nicole re-installed the second set. The other two sets are ready to be installed - we just ran out of daylight and energy.

Other work done consisted in Alan trying to get the generator working - a new solenoid is needed. Alan also started installing the tracer attachment on the lathe.

Cody (and Ed) led a tour around the railroad to a walk-up family checking us out.

The backhoe project. Fred and I cleaned ready to install hoses.

Here Fred is checking to make sure we had the first 3 hoses in correct, right before he went looking for anyone he could drag over to help us..

All 8 are in.. What a pain this was.

With the help of James, Brian, Fred, Cody and Pete, we got the cylinders on and hooked up. I gave Cody a little instruction on the controls and had him run everything in and out a few times.

Then went to see what was happening in the shop. Nicole and our newest volunteer Amanda were making great progress on the bearings for the turntable. Here a quick grab shot Amanda is facing me while Nicole is honing the next bearing.

The pieces were placed in Eds car for the trip to the turn table. Nicole showed off by lugging a wheel out right after Ed and I lugged the other out..

And out at the turntable, we test fit before bolting..

The juxtaposition of the Google-branded synthetic jacket and the filthy leather gloves worn by the same person really struck me in this photo.

Whether the jacket is employee "bling" or a promotional item, it just goes to show the wide variety of people our museum attracts.

Based on the current weather report, I will not be there again this Saturday. My area is expected to get heavy wet snow up to a foot, which means tricky travel.

I am impressed that Amanda can keep her tennis shoes so white around the railroad.
