Work done on Saturday October 23:

* Engine house: more boards went up, finishing up center bay east wall and run-through bay east wall (after the east wall was straightened).  Brendan assembled the corner post between bays 2 and 3 and erected it late in the afternoon.  Brendan also installed a bridge over the pit to the east door.
* Machine shop: Alan was at work turning an octagonal piece of metal into a round piece of metal.
* Boxcar 56: Marcel was at work.
* Coach 9: Zack finished assembling one of the truck assemblies and started working on the next.

Plow and Flanger were also moved on the woods track, so the south end of what will become something like Fred Shed Siding (current woods track) and be lined and crossing installed.

Some shots from today..

Cody and his dad Pete have been familiar faces all summer doing chores like this. Here they are moving a trailer load of kindling from the Enginehouse to the wood storage bin.

And here Cody and Pete drive some nails.

I even snuck a picture of Stewart putting up more siding.

I donned my blaze orange and headed south to check on beavers (none found and no dams) and turned to see 9 sitting there staring at me..

And I still like seeing tie impressions..

And last part of the afternoon helped Brendan stand up the beams between stalls 3 (left) and 2

Saturday 10/23 also marked the end of 5 weeks of sold-out Pumpkin Pickin' Trains to SeaLyon Farm. This wraps up our busiest season for passengers.

A big thank you to everyone who helped crew these trains over the last 5 weeks, in absolutely no particular order:
Gordon C., Dan M., Steve P., Nicole O., Bill P., Jason L., Bryce W., Brian W., Ed L., James P., Wes C., Steve L., Bob C., Bill R., Jay M., Joe M., Trevor H., Bill B., JB S., Scott H., Dana D., Roger W., Chuck B., Jay W., Linda Z., Rick S., James N., Jay B., Eric S., Brian S., Ben R., John McN., Pete S. & Cody McF., Dave B., and John R. (apologies if I missed someone.)

And let's not forget Cindy R. (with her helpers Joan and Jim M.) for managing the sometimes crazy, chaotic gift shop. And a shout out to Nancy W. for keeping us all well fed each week!

Finally, thanks to everyone throughout the organization who worked behind the scenes to adjust to having to deal with parking and logistics for hosting 350-400 passengers each Saturday.

Together, we made an extra-special and unforgettable day for dozens of families. Well done, WW&F.

Great underground news! BTW, at one time there was talk of a branching run to serve the engine house and one to serve the restrooms with additional service to the garage. That is, there would be a run to a underground box from which conduits would leave Eastward to the engine house, Northward to the car barn, and Westward to the restrooms/garage. These last items would be to provide freeze alarm service, as they already have electricity. I guess what I'm asking is what is now the conduit arrangement?

Regardless of the physical conduits themselves, a 'freeze alarm' can be fairly easily connected  via Ethernet, (preferably wired, or ...) WiFi.  Hopefully there are plans to get wired ethernet cables (Cat5 / Cat6 etc) to all buildings where conduits are planned.

We buried one conduit for power to the enginehouse, one conduit for power to the carbarn, both running through a buried cement vault by the enginehouse, connecting with conduit buried by Brendan and Contractor Jeff, and one spare for power to the vault. We also buried 3 conduits for comms from the vault we put in by the electrical building to a smaller buried vault by the enginehouse, which connected to the pipes Brendan and Contractor Jeff installed earlier this year.

Once upon a time (as the saying goes) every building was to have three conduits: power, comms (telephone and alarm), and spare. Does the new distribution system provide this?

Almost. There are only one power and comms each from the engine house and car barn. A 3rd conduit could be added if needed, but I think we can make it work as is (we usually do).

SPECIAL THURSDAY 10/28 WORKDAY ADDED!

We need volunteers for Thursday, 10/28 at 1pm to meet at Trout Brook Preserve to help our partners, Midcoast Conservancy, finish up the trail relocation.

The new trail officially opens on Saturday 10/30 with a special Grand Opening ceremony at 11:45am. A (nearly sold-out) "Ride the Rails to Hike the Trails" will be part of Saturday's festivities. We're hoping the weather cooperates!

Anyone who can help Thursday afternoon is welcome.
