Wood Craftsmanship
« on: June 26, 2021, 12:44:18 PM »
For those interested in car building; the C&TS volunteers have rebuilt a Pullman tourist sleeper in Colorado Springs. While one team built the body, another team built the Pullman trucks. This the first Pullman car rebuilt in Colorado; joining a large number of Jackson & Sharp products. D&RG #470 was built in 1889, later served the Colorado & Northwestern as a coach. Later still the Western Union wire train. Discussion and photographs can be found on the Narrow Gauge Discussion Forum.  Ted Miles, CRRM Member

And here is a  July 2020 photo with the upper bunks in 'sleeping position':

Does C&TS know about our new coach construction??  I have seen their photos, and they are very similar structurally to what we are doing with our new coach.  I would think that many of the C&TS folks would be fascinated by the similarities, and enjoy that thread of ours...

Does anyone know how to make that connection?

The restoration of the Tourist Sleeper  is actually a "Friends of the C&TSR" project. Here is their contact info:

I suggest directing your inquiry to Tim Tennant, CEO of the Friends group.

We have contacts with the C&TS, Friends, etc. I believe there has been mutual interest and limited cooperative efforts.

The Dispatch is the C&TS Dispatch is the news magazine of the Friends of the C&TS. The last two issues, volume 34, #1 and #2 cover the  re-construction of the #470. Some wood and iron parts of the original car are patterns built into the new car. If you are a member, or like me have access to a railroad library; take a look at this amazing project. Several of the museums have re-built passenger or freight cars; but this one is #1 for complexity and good looks. Also the first pair of Pullman trucks to be built in Colorado, I believe.
