Work done on Saturday September 11:

* At 10 AM the steam whistle blew for a moment of silence to remember those lost 20 years.
* The Lexington Group came today for a train ride.  They had a conference in Portland this past week, and this was their day to get out and do things.  We gave tours, answered questions, and of course took them for a train ride.  One group in the morning, one in the afternoon.
* Engine house: Brendan put down the boards on top of the concrete wall all around, with Fred supervising.
* An interview took place of Madelyn Verney Pierce, who was the daughter of a former postmaster of Sheepscot (in the 1930s), and was the sister of Richard Verney.
* Board meeting at 4.

A few photos from yesterday, Saturday, September 11th:

At 10 a.m., No. 9's whistle was sounded as a memorial to 9/11.

Stewart Rhine and Fred Morse filling buckets with coal for No. 9.

The day's charter train.  No. 9 is at the water tank.  Her consist (north to south):  MLMW open car No. 130; W&Q coach No. 3; MNG Franklin & Megantic No. 2; and SR&RL No. 14.

More Saturday photos can be found in the Mountain Extension and Engine House project threads.
What–me worry?

Work done on Saturday Sept 18:

* Equipment move: Mike and Brian got the Kubota from end of track and brought it back to Sheepscot, then returned the equipment hauler back to the north end.
* Painting Caboose 554: A crew repaired the roof on 554 and some trim, then in the afternoon painted it.  Let's hope it dried by the time the thunderstorms came through at 6.
* Coach 9: Nicole was milling pedestals for the coach.  Harold was putting a critical eye on the seat castings and doing some dremel work on one of them.
* Truck repair: Zack, Dave and I took apart the wood/steel sandwiches that made up the pivot block of the trucks, for Zack to make new ones from.
* Archival goodies: Linda got a shipment of slides of various railroads (including WW&F and Edaville).
* Equipment repair: Mike and others worked to remove and replace a piece of the Chesterfield dozer track.
* Coaling locos: Pete and Cody delivered coal to 9 and 7.

We went on tour after returning the equipment car to TOM. We had a new volunteer with us, Scott, that had not been past TOM prior to today, so we along with Steve Leet gave him the tour. We wound up at the end of track looking at the recent work for the Turntable

Then back to Sheepscot for lunch.
Dozer was finished about 5pm..

With a little extra heavy lifting help of the Kubota..

A follow up from Saturday, etc...

First off, we've welcomed three NEW volunteers to the railroad. Scott has already "jumped right in" and been present during both during the week and on Saturdays. On 9/18, we welcomed Sarah and Bob from Charlestown, NH. Their first visit to the WW&F was back in January for a "Winter Caboose Adventure" - this time they came back to PAINT the caboose!

If you (yes YOU) encounter a new volunteer at Sheepscot, be sure they have one of the new "Welcome to the WW&F" volunteer guides. They are found next to the sign-in log at Sheepscot. There is a smaller insert for the parents of minors who wish to volunteer aside their children. Special thanks to "Major" Steve Leet and Pete Stevens who helped produce these handouts.

And speaking of Pete (and Cody) the work they did to hand coal locomotives #9 and #7 is greatly appreciated! They easily moved 50 buckets of coal. By the end of the day, Cody was covered in coal dust (just as it should be.)

If someone (or some small group) who is not needed for the other tasks planned this week would like to tackle paining the INTERIOR of caboose 554, please check with me or Jason. We start $200 Caboose Adventure charters next week (includes Pumpkin Pickin' at SeaLyon Farm for up to 15 people) so it really should look the part.

We will scratch the retrieval until a later time. No good place to unload it in Sheepscot currently. Instead, I will be leveling behind the containers if it isn't too soft from the rain.
