To keep it simple, we are not using the train. Fred and Dwight along with help from Al and Zack have really opened Fossel Rd up and that will be our access. We will be meeting at Sheepscot between 8 and 8:30, and any that come later can join us on site. We can return to Sheepscot for lunch, or bring your own lunch and watch the trains at TOM. The plan is to be done and back to Sheepscot by 3, so those that would like to can enjoy a free train ride.

Mike's Making Molehills on the Mountain work event is being actively publicized to recruit new volunteers (as was done for Tie and Dine, Rock the Mountain, etc.) While there is no requirement to do so, there are signups at:

As always, I am amazed and proud of the amount of important work accomplished by these very dedicated weekly volunteers, as reported faithfully by Steve Lennox. I am in awe of you folks.

Quite often work that goes unreported happens on Sunday. Marcel has been steadily working on the Morse boxcar, getting the framing done. Nothing quick about it, and usually only has one other volunteer with him.

Without all of our volunteers, we would be at a stand still. Every one of them deserve praise.

I do think Steve missed his calling. Always supplying us with very detailed reports. A great talent to have.

Saturday morning, I stopped and grabbed 2 bags of ice on the way to the museum, thinking with the humidity it would be nice to have something cold to drink. Cindy had picked up several flavors of gatorade.

I loaded everything up when I arrived, about my usual time, 7:10. We had 2 powersaws, 4 blade trimmers, gas, oil, and my cooler plus the museums cooler full of water and some of the gatorade. We waited until 8:30 and had a decent crew of 6 ready to go north and trim some brush. We started off withDwight Winkley, Brian Whitney, Steve Leet, Art and Sam Dove, and myself. By 9 am, we were knocking the bushes down.. Here is Sam closest to me moving some brush, his dad Art ahead of him. Brian is on the left, with Steve furthest away.

About 15 minutes later looking back on that spot.

I turned around and shot south to TOM. Dwight is walking up the track. Shortly after this we were joined by Peter and Cody Stevens.

Done. They were finishing up at TOM so I came back and cut the west side of the big culvert.

Train was in..

Compared to a picture I took a couple weeks ago

Lets compare todays work

With a picture I took a couple weeks ago

And again

We were done. Headed to lunch and some took a trainrise at 1. It was a great day and if it hadn't been so hot, we may have continued..

I did catch Brendan bush hogging the field while we wereup there.

And don't forget the trains. It was hot. They swapped crews after 2 runs to help with the heat.

Hi,

Any chance of getting a photo of the prep work down by 218 for the turntable?

Bill,

Prep work for the turntable hasn’t started yet.  We are staging this month and will do all the site work within two weeks in September.

Thanks,
Jason

This is what I found today. Turn table has been moved to the main parkinglot.

The 2 vertical rows of rivets mark the end of the original turntable. Edaville welded ends on and installed truss rods to tension the added length.

I also found these marks, ready for cutting. This is beyond the weld because Edaville also changed the outer ring. Cutting the turntable back to the original length would complicate the modifications.

As for which table this was on the B&SR. It is impossible to tell. The originals had a running board along the bottom of the turntable beam, and wooden sides that went between the running board and the timbers on top of the beams that supported the track. Edaville welded the rail directly to the I beams. See the following image from one of Peter Barneys books.

So I have to ask, now seeing the historic photo, what would be the usefulness of the running board?  I assume this was an armstrong turntable, so anyone not on the engine would have been needed for the turn.
What–me worry?

It was like their pit. Engineer could walk along with running gear closer to eye level. No bending to oil.
