July 2021 Work Reports

The Lyons had tractor trouble noticed early in the day Saturday. Ed made a few hasty phone calls, and we wound up loaning them Freds Tractor. I drove it up and gave Don a quick lesson on it. I checked with him later and he said all went well and he would like to buy 2 just like it because it is a "real tractor".

Anticipated work for Tuesday and Wednesday 20-21 July, 2021.

*  Bridge work, to include, piling brackets, removal of temporary timbers, ice walls
    and spiking. Stone work to follow up later.
*  Trout Brook turntable pivot base, work continues.
*  Machine shop, wheel pressing prep.
*  Fred Shed work continues (pending)
*  Engine house work continues.
*  Sheepscot campus clean up
*  Switching

7:05pm: Train Crew Volunteers/Pickup passengers from Lavender Farm

Anticipated Operations for SUNDAY, July 25th.
10:00am: Private Birthday Charter (Diesel 52 & open car) departs SS.
12:00pm: Private Birthday Charter departs ToM; returns to SS.
1:00pm - 3:00pm: Train rides ToM <-> AC for Maine Open Farm Days at SeaLyon Farm (tix at Farm by donation.)


All trains are limited to 75 passengers and all tickets must be purchased in advance.

Work completed Tuesday and Wednesday 20-21 July 2021.

Tuesday:

*Track work, the crew concentrated on spiking the track on the Trout Brook bridge,
   this included adding tie plates, pre drilling and then spiking the rail and plate.
   ( Steve L, Dana, Bob L, Steve Leet, Chuck, Brian W. )

*  Machine shop, wheel axles and wheels were worked on and prepped for mounting. (Jerry, Randy)

*  Tamper (Wilma), work begins with more trouble shooting the electrical system  (Jay B)

*  Coach #9 assembly continues  (Eric)

*  Car cleaning, (Pete, Cody)

*  Archives, work continues  (Linda)

*  Engine house, work continues, prepping the house tracks for the concrete pour (Brendan, Fred)

*  Fred Shed, finishing touches completed today, it looks great!  (Stewart, Fred)

Wednesday:

*  Track work, spiking continued and completed.  (Dan, Steve L, Brian W, Chuck)

*  Machine shop, wheels and axle prep completed.  (Jerry, Randy)

*  Gift shop work, which goes beyond just operational days.  (Cindy R)

*  Coach #9 Assembly continues (Eric)

*  Rolling stock oiling, this goes on every week by one volunteer.  (Phil B)

*  Various switching within the yard.  (Steve L, Brian W, Jason)

*  Computer work and Rule Book up dates  (Ed, Jason)

Does look great (I agree!) but not quite ready for planking.  We need to add stone around the pilings per the bridge engineer, and the access is through the bridge beams.  Hope to accomplish this in the next month..

Are you going to re-stage the infamous Mason's Wreck?  CGI it on video. what the heck. . . If James Cameron could sink the CGI Titanic, you should be able to sink the train and bridge.  C'mon. . . some "techie" out there ought to be able to pull it off. I double dog dare ya!

The distance compression effects of a long telephoto lens are really evident in the "Steve Lennox dtiving a spike" shot. People who have never seen the real 47-ft bridge will believe it's only 4' long.

Road is stumped and somewhat leveled. Don Lyons is tickled with it. He plans on putting stone on it because it is very soft. I have one pipe to install next weekend and then one to do for him in his field.
