I think Wilmar will be 1016. The last 2 cars that were built and numbered were the work flat 1014 and the equipment car 1015. If I remember, I will bring the stencils..

Work done on Saturday June 5:

* Level the Mountain: Jacking and tamping occurred, making good progress.  The track went up several inches in places, making ballast hard to find in that immediate location.  Of course there's lots of other ballast in other places where we don't need it!
* Alna Center: A bunch of gravel was delivered, and Mike took the loader up to cart it around and put it under the pavilion.  Mike was also getting loam from a dirt pile north of the field and spreading it around the pavilion.
* Visitors: A few random visitors throughout the day, including relatives of Alice Ramsdell who came to see #9.

Isn't Alice's nephew, a Mr. King, the man who leased the #9 to the WW&F, along with a boxcar?  I met Alice once years ago down at the Walker Transportation Collection at Beverly Historical Society. Every Wednesday evening was an open house / work session at the collection. There was an elderly deaf lady who used to visit once in a while. One night she came creaking down the stairs to our basement headquarters, and behind her was another old lady whom we'd never seen.  The first lady introduced her to us. . . "This is Alice Ramsdell". Well we were dumbstruck! The fabled owner of the WW&F locomotive down in Putnam, CT herself!  They stayed an hour or so and we dragged out lots of photos of the loco as SRR #5, SR&RL #6, KC #4.  She had a great time looking at them. It was the only time I ever saw her. I'll never forget it.

Note:  Weather conditions for both days will high temps (80+).

Midcoast Conservancy Trail Day.

This is the project to relocate the "blue trail" at Trout Brook Preserve off of the WW&F RoW so that train service can safely begin at the new station site.

This is a critically important project to the long-term goals of the museum. All help will be greatly appreciated.

I will be late arriving Saturday so not sure what I'll do at AC.

Also, I wish I could make the trail relocation. I had walked and found an excellent spot that would require very little to put the trail through. Limbing and cut a couple of logs on old trees that had fallen over the years. But maybe you can find a better spot.

There are various proposed locations for the trail relocation. We are meeting with Midcoast this afternoon to finalize the plan. The most important aspects are where the trail crosses the railroad and distance from the railroad when the trail runs parallel.

This has always been a potential sticking point since we started the extension.  They have been using our ROW down there for a long time, but we own it!  So let's hope we can find a mutually satisfactory resolution that protects both us and them...both programmatically and legally.

I have to work Saturday; otherwise, I'd join the work.  Like our Museum, Midcoast Conservancy has done much work to preserve the cultural and natural heritage of the Sheepscot Valley.  I'm glad we can and do partner with the conservancy, SeaLyon Farm and other local businesses and organizations.

That is indeed the goal and Midcoast Conservancy has been fabulous to partner with. The solution that is being implemented is more than satisfactory to everyone involved.

Work will begin on Saturday on a new "upper" connecting trail which will allow visitors to the Preserve to only cross the tracks in one location (near the bridge) while maintaining convenient access the entire trail system. If there is time, the new lower trail from the parking lot to the pedestrian crossing will be roughed in.

Once completed, there will be no need for visitors to Trout Brook Preserve to walk on or alongside the active railroad.
