Come to think that the works started hardly three years ago. You have achieved a great job of work despite the C 19, the lack of material and winter. Congrats you all for your stunning skills and unstinting comitment that are essential to rebuilt this  endearing railway and consequently the Maine History.

Zack Wyllie finished up the shingling of the northwest corner of the center stall.  Zack at work this morning.

And the last of the staging removed in this after lunch view.
What–me worry?

The last window and the east door have been installed. Saturday's crew of Brendan, Fred, Zack, James and Start worked on the building.  Work included cleaning up scrap wood + adding more shingles on the center and east stall walls.

Gonna have to get those "Man in Pit" signs made up for the sight glass, tri cocks, and injectors made up soon. The ones we have in CT are blocks of wood on a piece of jack chain with "Do Not Use" on one side and "Man in Pit" on the other. Nothing more fun than getting hot water dripped on you, even worse if it's a flow.

How about “Person in Pit”? It’s a bit more inclusive….

Well this thread is the pits now..

Definately need some kind of safety device in place, period appropriate or not. They make lockout covers that are commercially available for all types of valves, switches and almost any other application. The ambulance that shows up after an injury will definately not be period appropriate.

Safety is a big priority in the construction industry, a result of injuries sustained from not properly locking out what is being worked on or around.

The best safety device in this situation would be a designated person in the cab to make sure no one accidentally does something that could cause injury to a person in the pit!

A lock out device to prevent harm to someone working under the locomotive should be called a

Pit Stop.

We call that close proximity maintenance. Our rules at work call for constant visual contact between the worker and the attendant, and a third set of eyes can be used as a relay when the work location is out of sight of the one attending the controls.
