do you intend to shingle over this? I assumed the siding would be board and batten like the shop building.

There is a similar question / comment in the NGDF thread I linked above:

Stewart , the sheeting looks great . Almost like  a kit with pre stained wood but what will happen  to the gaps?
 Ed:)-D
The exterior sheathing will be covered with felt  paper and cedar shingles to seal it.  Insulation  and interior sheathing will finish the inside
because the engine house will be heated.

Glad to see period appropriate boards not plywood.
even if it will be covered.

Several buildings on the farm here have reused sheathing
(you can tell by the different mismatched paint colors)  :-)

These boards are not re-used, they came from a lumber company. Most people don't want to buy 4" wide boards, we couldn't get lumber from our usual places. They had to much work, so we took what we could find.

Is there enough lumber to sheathe the whole enginehouse?

Jeff,
There should be enough to do the entire engine house.

When in Watertown NY, early 60's saw a few houses sheathed in boards from discarded
artillery shell boxes.(Camp Drum in those days) Studs spaced to match. When money is
short you do what you have to do.

It looks very appropriate.  ;D

Brendan,  The pictures show great progress in framing the building. Looking at the large support post the crane has been a great help. Wonder if any angle bracing will be added to the walls after the sheeting is complete?  Thanks for your leadership on the Engine House looking great.    Fred Kuhns

Yesterday, November 13th -

* The track crew spiked the service track down to alongside the engine house, holding a golden spike ceremony when the last spike went in.  Each member of the crew got one hit on the spike.

* The crew also spiked the house track down close to the north doorway of the run through stall.

* More sheathing was added to the west main wall including the tapered pieces at the top.

* Fred's crew cut a bunch of rafters and stacked them to dry.

* Rafters were installed to tie the second post into the west main wall. Some of the braces were set as well.

Photos from yesterday are on the WW&F FB page.

is the area over the doorway temporary?, it appears cockeyed compared to the line of the cross beams.
